Parents With Adhd – Why Medication Can Cause More Problems Than It Solves

Many parents with ADHD only discover this when their own children are diagnosed. They never knew although they may have suspected it. It certainly proves the genetic link although no one can say what the exact probability or percentage of that is. In any case, the parents are concerned about their won ability to cope and help their own children to manage. That is the real challenge.

They may decide to go down the medication with drugs route for themselves so that they can remain focused, alert and less forgetful. But there are many ways of coping with these problems other than meds. But first let us look at the problems with these meds. There is a real problem in getting hold of them. There are frequent shortages and even though the FDA says that there is no problem, we often find people on an Adderall hunt as they run from one pharmacy to another in order to get their prescriptions filled.

The supply is one problem and there is a suspicion that the manufacturers and suppliers are doing this deliberately. If a shortage is created in the generic supplies, the patients will be forced to seek the brand name which is, of course much more expensive., The cost is another factor to weigh up anyway. Estimates say that the normal Adderall RX can cost up to $340 a month, if it is not covered by insurance. Usually it is not because it is classed as a pre-existing condition.

Parents with ADHD may be worried about putting their children on these drugs. They may be approached by older students to get illegal supplies because they need to study all night for an exam. Getting involved in that scenario may lead to other temptations in the illegal drug scene. Researchers are now saying that up to 35% of all college students use Adderall illegally to study at least once in their college years.

The problem that most parents with ADHD have to face is to get their homes organized in such a way that it can help all the members of the family., Taking a drug like Adderall will only partially solve the problem. There are things to consider like time management and trying to get things done. They may have problems with distraction and forgetting important things. There are all sorts of electronic gadgets on the market now which can really help.

They will also have to consider how to implement behavior therapy strategies which they can benefit from them elves as they will become more aware of their own behavior. There are many challenges that parents with ADHD face but if they think outside the box and look for other solutions, such as homeopathy, they can avoid the crazy rush to get Adderall.
