There are a lot of resources available to assist job seeking veterans to connect with employers in the civilian job opportunities. Many companies are also striving hard to ensure that the military vets who put their life on line to go to war and fight in defense of the country. Most of the sources to these veteran employment opportunities are available on the internet and therefore it should not be hard for the vets to connect with the employers.
Walmart Stores Inc. is among the companies that have made veteran employment a priority. It has announced plans to employ military veterans during the first twelve months that they are out of active duty in order to increase domestic sourcing of products by 50 billion dollars for the next ten years. This employment offer is planned to begin during the Memorial Day and most of these jobs will be in Walmart clubs and stores as well as home offices and distribution centers. The company's chief executive, Mr. Bill Simon quoted the ability of veterans to perform well under pressure to be one among the reasons he prefers hiring them to be part of the business.
The company also has plans to hire approximately 100,000 military veterans over the next five years. It plans to fulfill this in partnership with the White House as well as other businesses that have shown interest in supporting veterans. In order to create more jobs, it plans to use a two-pronged approach to increase sourcing in the United States. First, it intends to maximize what it already buys within the country in categories such as apparel basics, sporting goods, games, storage products as well as paper products. Second, it is striving to re-introduce to the United States Shores of Production in areas like furniture, textiles and higher end appliances.
There are also efforts by many other companies and states that are aimed at ensuring that veterans get employment. In Michigan for instance, Governor Rick Snyder is making a push for efforts that are aimed at ensuring that veterans do not find trouble when it comes to translating their military experience into certification or licensing into their preferred civilian occupations. Some of the fields of jobs he mentioned as suitable for the vets include the mechanics, medical technicians as well as truck drivers. More businesses in this area are also encouraged to consider vets when they have job vacancies. There are also incentives provided for those employers both in the state and federal to enable them to hire more people.
Even though the incentives are available, the best reason why a company should hire veterans is due to their outstanding skills that make them good employees. And we know for fact that good employees are good for business. Other resources that will help vets find employment opportunities include VetSuccess, Army Career Alumni Program, Employment Partnership of the Armed Forces, Official Wounded Warrior Programs, just to mention a few.
