The world has become a fast place to live in. We see changes everyday in almost every aspect of our life: economy, technology, politics, science, business, health, medicine, engineering, you name it.
And with all these changes we find ourselves facing a new silent enemy: stress. Almost every disease that cannot be explained with physical symptoms will probably be caused by stress. So now more and more doctors are suggesting their patients a healthy lifestyle.
But what aspects of life fall in the category of a healthy lifestyle? The main three are listed and explained through this article, although you may find some other in your personal experience.
Diet
The first thing to do is reviewing and/or changing your eating habits. We are flooded with fast food restaurants that show us the happiest people in their advertisements enjoying a juicy burger or a warm pepperoni pizza, and we have so little time to cook a healthy meal that we normally eat whatever.
This behavior has direct impact in our health. Cholesterol, triglycerides, uric acid and other similar names are now part of our conversations because younger people are getting high levels of these substances when being tested.
The solution can be as easy or as complicated as desired. It takes discipline to eat healthy, but you will feel much better in your daily activities and have more energy to do things after work like exercising.
Exercise
This is not a great discovery. People who are used to running, walking or doing any other kind of physical activity three times a week tend to have a better life than those who do not.
Exercise has uncountable benefits. Not only it helps in the obvious improvement of body features but it reduces stress, anxiety, it increases sexual appetite and stimulates blood circulation, carrying more oxygen to the brain as well as other parts of your body.
Rest. Please do so
The body is designed to recover energy at night. And for that recovery to take place, you need to sleep at least 6 hours. Sleeping fewer hours does not give your body the opportunity to finish its processes, which impacts in your daily performance.
The results of bad sleeping habits are simple, yet complex:
1. Energy reduction to complete your daily tasks
2. You will have trouble paying attention and concentrating
3. You might notice some other changes in your physical state
To sum it all, having a healthy life means paying attention to these three basic actions. It takes discipline and will to take control of them, especially with all the options that are out there and that tell you to do the opposite.
It is impossible to talk about each topic a little bit more, because there are simply too many things to say and we could write a thesis about them. The intention of this article was to establish a general overview of the subject and make people conscious about the importance of changing some habits.
You have to remember that, even when a habit can seem unable to change, it is only a matter of desire and making things happen. The best thing of the whole process is the reward at the end of the road and the feeling that you are doing something great to benefit yourself.
