Awareness is an ability that can change your life drastically. It changes the way you look at, hear, feel and think about the world. Over time it can enrich your life through more satisfaction through your every day activities. Here are some ervery day methods to train your awareness:
Taste
Many of us don´t really taste their food anymore, aka fast food. The next time you eat or drink something, really try to taste it, maybe even smell it. Take your thoughts away from the problems you might be thinking through towards your food, even if you don´t have much time. You can do that even when your eating while doing other things, like walking. This simple change in your awareness might change how you see food over the long run.
Another nice method that fits this category, especially if you have more time, is the asian tea or african coffee ceremony.
Listen
The next time your talking with another person, really try to listen to him/her. While we´re talking with each other, we often already think about the things we could say to our neighbours or how we could argument against their opinions.
This way we often don´t really hear what they have to say. So next time, try to change your focus away from your thoughts, towards the person in front of you. You might be surprised when you recognize how often you don´t really listen ;)
Of course you can also listen to fine music or the sounds around you while you taking a walk. Just try to listen only.
See
The sense of seeing is probably the strongest, or the most used one. But here also, we judge often about what we think we see instead of really seeing the true nature of things. Remind yourself really see what is going on around, the colors and different shapes of your surrounding. Try not to judge or think about it.
Smell
The smell, like all our senses, is very important to detect if something is good or bad for us. It has a big influence on our emotions and thoughts, even if you can´t recognize it. Like with the other senses, try not judge what you´re smelling, even if it might be bad.
Touch
The last of our senses, the touch. This time, try to feel the different attributes you can recognize while touching an object. Is it soft, hard, cold or warm? This exercise might be especially interesting when the "object" your touching is another person ;)
You see, you have more than one opportunities to train your awareness every day. How much are you willing to do? :)
