The Best Food for Weight Caontrol

The right amount is the amount needed to satisfy hunger, rather than appetite but most people in the developed countries do not really know what hunger is. Choosing the right kind of food makes it much easier to eat the right amount. Whole plant foods are more bulky, so one feels fuller and more satisfied. These foods have their full complement of vitamins and minerals and they do not contain excess calories. Refined foods are less bulky, less filling and have more calories. Excess calorie intake is almost inevitable when these foods form a large part of the diet. In addition, they are deficient in the vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals that the body needs to metabolise all those calories and to fight disease. Their absence creates even more dissatisfaction and sometimes cravings and addictions as well. Eating very quickly also leads to overeating, whereas eating very slowly, savouring each mouthful and chewing it well, increases the level of satisfaction.

Fat provides more than twice as many calories as carbohydrate and protein, so it makes sense to eat less of it, but in itself fat is not bad. In the right amount, as found in natural, unrefined plant foods, it is good. Some is necessary to enable us to absorb the fat soluble vitamins and it adds flavor and interest to the diet. A varied diet of unrefined plant foods is not a fat free diet, and need not even be a very low fat diet. There is plenty of healthy natural fat in nuts, seeds, olives and avocados. It is not that that cause problems but it is the added fats. A very overweight person would be wise to be careful not to use too much of even natural high fat foods, but few should cut them out completely without expert advice.

The food Industry and Low-Fat food

The food industry as great success with he sale of low fat food, but it has actually been found that we get fat gives a feeling of satisfaction, limiting the intake. What happens is that we eat large amounts of the low fat foods; the total number of calories is higher, so the weight goes up. Low fat sweet things are extra high in sugar. Low fat spreads may not be of much help either, especially if we eat them in double the quantity of the old full fat spreads.
