What Makes Us Function As We Are?

Could your function be soul, mind, or only body? Modern science has been able to review the brain neuron by neuron; exposing the connection between what we think and then do and also; in relation to the mechanical connection of mind controlling the body’s actions. We send a signal with our brain down the nervous system to the said nerves and then those nerves contract or relax a particular muscle as need be. Some are commanded or “voluntary” muscle reactions we can control and others are not. Would you consider yourself a machine? I believe we are all machines to an extent. The goal is not to become a machine completely but that’s where we’re heading.

To further explore the idea of what makes us function as we are; we need to understand what is really in control. What is it that controls you when you stand at the edge of a high bridge and you get that butterfly feeling in your stomach or what happens when you see something emotionally overwhelming and then you cry?

Emotions can not be reviewed under a microscope… or can it? It has been studied that we have brain cells that control these types of felling and they are known as “white” brain cells. These brain cells are known to be lower in quantity from our exposure to the digital world allowing more and more “grey” brain cells to thrive with our mechanical environment of smart phones, texting, and contact “screen time”.

Could it be possible we may soon lose our “humanity” and become less empathic drones of some sort? What will be the dominate brain cells for us 20, 40, or even 50-100 years from now? This is leading to a lot of debate as to how much “screen time” we should allow for ourselves and our children, grandchildren, etc.

So; if the question was to arise: “What makes us function as we are”? You have a series of questions to review. Are your psychical needs being met for survival? And then you would need to review where your brain is at so you can then move up the ladder of determining what your emotional state will be. Finally your end up at your spiritual level of the health pyramid which will drive down all the commands to your current actions.

If our emotional well being is currently at risk of our modern age of the digital onslaught; you better believe that we will all lose whatever spiritual well being we could have ever achieved. Soon thereafter; our emotional wellbeing will also be destroyed. This will leave us our mental well being and our physical state. Could we become completely overtaken by our “grey” brain cells and be lost in our virtual life or become dehumanized? The answer is yes; just when?
