There are times when we find ourselves turning around on bed with eyes closed, but cannot fall asleep. When we have to wake up in the morning, and we're still awake, the only question that we have is - What to do?
It's all related to our emotions and wellbeing. If we're too stressed we might be thinking about the source of the stress too much. But, it may not be that simple. Sometimes, things we never thought about can be the source of insomnia. Let's take a look at 4 potential reasons we can't fall asleep;
1 - Work stress - The most obvious one, stress at work, can keep us up at night thinking about it, while we're not able to actually do anything about it during the time of sleep. There's time and place for such work, and if you're engaged in it, you should find a way to keep it on the workplace and not take it home. This can be a topic written about in books, since it depends on nature of your work. It can be difficult to do so, but it's absolutely inevitable to do for your health.
2 - Work ideas - This can be another side of work, but a more positive one. If you've got countless work ideas running in the back of your head while you're sleepless, you have to find a way to structurize them, and more importantly, write them down. Unwritten ideas stay in your head, and they're coming back when you calm yourself. They often require some sort of action, but the worst thing is that you want to get some sleep in that period. Put those ideas on your plans and write them down. It will be much easier and you'll relieve yourself.
3 - Emotional stress - If you've been through a rough situation or experiencing a form of depression, you might have difficulties with falling asleep. That's totally normal and takes time to get strong enough to emotionally carry heavy things. It's important to be realistic about source of emotional stress and do whatever you can about it. Unresolved relationships and unsaid things will keep you up at night, also. It can even be recommended to visit a psychiatrist. They can help you a lot. Learn to meditate. That might help you a lot! Another solution may be that you have someone who'll talk you into sleep.
4 - Lack of self-expression - Creative people often have insomnia issues. They don't look at them like issues, though. They simply don't sleep and start to create something during night. If they experience a lack of self-expression, they might find it really hard to fall asleep. When you find yourself in such situation, there's a big chance you'll stay awake whole night unless you take whatever's inside you out creatively.
In the end, these 4 reasons might be common and can be solved. It just takes realistic view on things that will get you started. Understand the reason and do whatever you can about it. Insomnia can be bad for your health, for many reasons, and you can gain weight because of it.
