What Causes Memory Loss?—prevent It Now!

Do you always misplace your keys? Forget birthdays? Can't remember a simple shopping list? If so read on, I've got some wonderful tips to help you!

Let's take a closer look into what causes memory loss and more importantly, how to prevent it. The common causes of memory loss are the following:

1. ) Disease. Includes Alzheimer's, dementia, psychosis, etc.

2.) Abuse. Unhealthy habits such as drugs and alcohol.

3.) Attention. ADD and ADHD.

Those are the three most common way we lose our memory but how do we prevent them?! How can we not only prevent them but make our memory stronger than ever so we never have to forget where we left the keys, a loved one birthday, or anything else for that matter.

First and foremost, we NEED to be healthy and live an active lifestyle. Research has shown time and time again, that this is not only good to do, it's a necessity! As a basic rule of thumb we should get at least 10,000 steps a day in, and follow the basic nutritional guideline given to us by the FDA.

Okay that is great advice and everything but what can we do to get to the next level? I really want something that can give me tangible results.

Okay, once you get your health in line ( and even during the process.) WE NEED TO TRAIN OUR MINDS! What we don't use, we lose. We can do crossword puzzles and learn new things, but does that really give you the results you want? Or does it just prolong the process a little?

Don't get me wrong they are great but they are nothing compared to the technologies in mind improvement out today. How can we truly use are memory fast and effectively? The answer is memory techniques.

They totally eliminate all attention problems and HELP BUILD THE BRAIN BACK UP.

Do you need a complex system to develop these skills? The answer is no, while it certainly does help, there is plenty information available online. Let's take the memory palace technique for example. This technique is a way of mental going through your house and memorizing. Before we memorize anything, stand at your doorstep. What do you see? You're door. Open your door, what do you see? For me it is a lamp. What is the next thing you see? A chair. Then you might see a coffee table, then a TV.

So when I take a mental stroll through my house I see:

My door.

My lamp.

My chair.

My coffee table.

and My TV.

For you this will be different. Just mentally stroll through your house and pick out 5 items.

Now let's say we want to memorize this list of things when we go shopping: Dog food, whipped cream, soda, flour, and a screwdriver.

Here is how I would do it, I would connect each of those 5 items to an item in my mental stroll. Here is an example (and you can do this too with the 5 items you picked out.)

My door ----> First item- Dog food. I would see my dog scratching at my door, this tells me: Dog food.

My lamp ----> Second item- whipped cream. I would see whipped cream alll over my lamp (shesh, what a mess.)

My chair ----> Third item- soda. I would see a giant two litter bottle of soda sitting on my chair.

My coffee table ----> Fourth item- flour. There would be a bag of flour ripped open, making a big white mess of powder all over the coffee table!

My TV ----> Fifth item- Screwdriver. I would see a giant screw driver crashed into my TV screen breaking it.

Now if we go though our memory palace again, we can easily remember our shopping list! Isn't that wonderful? Of course, this is just a basic memory technique—there are certainly more advanced strategies of doing it—but this will lead you well on your way to a happy healthy life, without having to worry about what causes memory loss ever again, because now you know you can beat it.
