The Nokia Lumia 1520 arrived last week in an attempt by Nokia to get smartphones selling that run on the Windows Phone 8 operating system.
Previous reception of Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 for PCs has so far be lukewarm but in both cases updates have been made to rectify the initial problems and bugs.
So the question is do we now have a smartphone running on Windows Phone 8 that is worth buying?
Features
- Outdoors – Nokia are very proud of their high definition displays that have been carefully designed to work outside and under direct sunlight. The display measures 6 inches so we are into phablet territory here.
- Windows Phone 8 – The start screen has been redesigned to offer better user experience and access to a world of apps. The People Hub is included and the Live Tiles have now all been optimised for a big screen.
- Camera – There is an impressive PureView 20 mega pixel camera on the Lumia 1520 as this is accompanied by a whole host of photo enhancing features. Users who snap away all day can later rediscover the story on a timeline that is linked to locations on the interactive HERE maps. A set of photo editing tools allow for an expression of creativity and include the options to re-frame, re-crop, apply filters and add captions.
- Business – Both personal and business users will be grateful for the inclusion of Microsoft Office which lets you view, edit and save Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. In fact you can save these files to SkyDrive and then access them from any device in any location. Business users will also enjoy access to Microsoft Exchange, Lync and Office 365.
So there is plenty here to suggest that the Nokia Lumia 1520 has delivered a desirable Windows Phone 8 device. You can also view a picture gallery of the UK Nokia Lumia 1520 to get a feel of the design along with screen shots.
