People love to send text messages. Students send a message to their friends, asking the friends to meet them for lunch. Employees contact a radio station, requesting that the station play a song that they like. Coworkers text other coworkers to warn them that the boss is watching.
People are likely to send messages wherever they happen to be. A student might be in the school dining hall, sipping coffee while studying for a test, for example, when it occurs to him that he has a question. His professor is not available, so he contacts a classmate, who promptly texts back an answer. Now he can feel better, focus on his studying, and try to get a good grade. A passenger riding a Greyhound bus might get in touch with his family to let them know that the trip is going well and he will be home soon. Someone might even send one of these messages while sitting on the toilet. There are many reasons why a person might choose to contact someone while sitting on the toilet.
One reason is multitasking. A person cannot be out taking care of business while he is in the restroom doing his business, so he sends a text message. That way, business can go on, and he can get back with his people when he finishes in the restroom.
Another reason one might try to get in touch with someone while sitting on the toilet is if the message is very important. A husband might be in the restroom at work, for example, when he remembers that the water bill needs to be paid today. He then contacts his wife, who is at home. His wife receives his message, goes to pay the bill, and the couple gets to keep their water turned on. By keeping their water turned on, they can take showers, wash their dishes, do their laundry, clean their house, and live the life they have always wanted.
People might consider text messages impersonal, because they prefer to talk. However, there is one really good thing about this form of communication: if you are on the receiving end of one of these messages, and the person contacting you happens to be in the restroom, you will not have to hear flushing toilets or any of the other unpleasant noises that you might hear in the restroom.
Enjoy this unique form of communication. Stay in touch with those around you, and save your stomach.
