One of the most powerful tools on the internet for any business owner is Google Analytics. Most professionals will be familiar with this SEO tool but did you know that there is a Google Analytics mobile phone app?
And, maybe more importantly why should you care?
Well, in my opinion the Google Analytics app offers a better experience to that of the website version and the graphical layout is far easier and more enjoyable to use.
Who is it for?
The app is for anyone who owns a website and wants to improve its visibility with search engines or understand and improve the visitors experience.
How does it work?
Once the app is downloaded it will open and present you with an overview page. This page contains loads of useful information and the design really shows off your websites essential facts well.
This first page is split into sections which include real time, audience, acquisition, behaviour and goal completion. If you wish to view more detailed information then you can swipe your finger from left to right to open up the menu, more on this later.
What does Google Analytics show?
Here is a breakdown of what information is provided on the overview page:
- Real Time - Here you can see how many visitors are on your website and whether they are a returning visitor or a new one.
- Audience - This shows how many visitors have been to your website and from which country. At the top of the overview page you can change the time period to see a single day or even a whole year.
- Acquisition - This shows how visitors found your website. It may have been through a search engine or from a link in an offsite article or social post.
- Behavior - Displayed graphical you can see here the number of page views and when they happened. It is useful to know when your website is receiving peak traffic, for example to time a press release for maximum effect.
- Goal completion - Shown as a bar chart, here you can view goal competitions. This could be set to a page like an order confirmation page or how many times a link is clicked on your website.
By accessing the menu of the Google Analytics app you can find more in-depth information. Just three of the most useful include:
- Social - How may visitors came to your website via a referral from a social network such as Pinterest, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus.
- Keywords - This shows what words people are using to find your website via search engines like Google and Bing.
- Pages - This shows which pages your visitors are, well visiting! It may be useful to know if an onsite article has been popular or if a popular page should be adapted to create sales opportunities.
How much does the app cost?
Nothing! Just download it over a Wi-Fi connection so that you don't eat into your smartphones data bundle.
Great app!!! Much prefer it to the actual website version!
