Private Surfing on Iphone & Ipad

Surfing on the internet exposes a lot of your private information whether you know it or not. Though most people throw up their hands and say something like, "I've got nothing to hide", it's slippery slope, and you've got to draw the line somewhere. If private surfing on iPhone and iPad is a concern of yours, then VPN software is something you should look into. It's easy to use, and basically makes you anonymous for all activity online. In fact,it's frequently called 'anonymous surfing software', or an 'anonymous VPN'.

What am I getting myself into?

Yeah, being 'anonymous' on the internet sounds a bit shady. In fact, sometimes VPNs are used by shady characters to do their shady business, but VPN services have taken many precautions to allow you to have privacy but be able to catch criminals. VPNs are actually a kind of software that's used in business, education, and even in the military. The simplest way to explain it is that it allows you to access computer servers from outside the network without worrying about having your data intercepted along the way. Though with the above examples, there will probably be a private network YOU or someone you know (or work for) owns, and using the VPN connection will allow you to access the network remotely, for private surfing, it works a bit differently.

A VPN service will own a network of private servers located around the world. By paying a monthly fee, you can access these private servers, and get a private connection to the internet no matter where you are in the world. Because of the various locations of the VPN servers, and the virtual IP address that's assigned to the device you use (in this case iPhone and iPhone), VPN services are also a popular way to change your IP address and access websites that are restricted based on IP.

Where do I get into it?

It's easy to get a VPN set up for privacy on your iOS device. You don't even need to visit the Apple Store. You iPhone will come with the necessary stuff to use the VPN. You just need to download the VPN software for the particular VPN service you choose. Though most services will offer PPTP and L2TP VPNs for iPhone and iPad, the actual makeup of the software will vary slightly. This means that you can't use one version of the VPN to access another services servers.

Anyway, you can check out features like server location, prices, bandwidth limitations, and interface features (remember that simpler interfaces means the VPN starts faster). Speaking of speed, PPTP VPN for iOS will be faster that L2TP. However, L2TP VPN connection will give you more privacy and security. Actually, if you have a fast internet connection to begin with, you won't notice a difference. This isn't always the case with shared internet (which is a REALLY good reason to use a private VPN for iPhone). Some services give you unlimited access to PPTP and L2TP VPN servers so you can switch as you please.
