Since iPad 2 came out, it’s as if the first generation of iPad never even existed. It’s like the iPad second generation was what became the second best thing. This clearly explains the fact that the market for iPad has grown significantly.
iPad versus iPad 2
The iPad
The iPad was released on the 27th of January, 2010
There as truth to the rumours after all. Apple was indeed making something that resembles a tablet with no visible buttons, and each word spoken by Steve Jobs was carefully weighed. People were excited after its release. It was a unique device, which has a combination of videos, music, books, gaming and the best of all, internet access. It was referred to as not just an evolution but also a resolution. The guys at Apple knew they had hit the jackpot with this one.
The iPad 2
The iPad 2 was released on the 11th of March, 2011
Right when those devoted to Apple were thinking that life couldn’t get any better, the second generation of the iPad which was just as successful as all the Harry Potter movies, or maybe even more so, as Harry Potter could be watched on your iPad. The iPad 2 arrived and it was faster, thinner, sleeker, and a sight to behold. Plus it has a great looking magnetic cover. It is now the “in thing”. When it literally wakes up when it is opened. And when it is closed it sleeps again. We are yet to discuss the specifics of the two editions. But before getting into that, I want to share something with you – the iPad and the iPad 2 far outperforms any other tablets that are on the market today. But has the predecessor been outperformed by its successor? Hmmm?
Now let us compare the two iPads. For starters, the size of the screen, Bluetooth, battery life, Wi-Fi connection, and storage are similar for the two of them. When it comes to sleekness, the availability of camera, the Apple A5 dual-core processor however, the iPad 2 takes the lead. In terms of price, the iPad 2 is leaning on the higher side just a little more. Even though the iPad 2 has a base price that is similar to that of the iPad, which is 499 dollars, you will have to fork out 829 dollars if you want an iPad 2 with 64 GB and 3G connectivity. In terms of price, that is the main difference between the first iPad and the iPad 2.
One new feature of the iPad 2 is that it allows you to select from two types of carriers – Verizon and At&T. The first iPad only afforded you one choice, just At&T. Whil ethe owners of the original edition of iPad still have the Smart Cover for it, they will feel disappointed as that cover is not able to place the device in sleep or wake mode like that of the iPad 2.
