With the introduction of 8 megapixel cameras, HD video recording, and SIRI voice recognition and command software, Apple's iPhone 4s has broken a barrier in the curve of technology and opened a huge door for smartphones to become very, very smart.
The revolution has everyone wondering, what will they pack into their next product, the iPhone 5? What innovations can we expect to break more ground? There are various rumors - last keyboard, holographic display, etc. Rumors aside, there are a few other things we can be more sure of.
From what we know now, we can't confirm or deny any of the super features mentioned before, however, we can count on the iPhone 5 for sure to revamp its beauty and functioning speed in the form of larger and clearer display, and a faster technology than 3G.
This might be disappointing to some. For me, not so much. I'm perfectly content with how my iPhone 4 functions. Given that version 5.0 will come with everything that the 4s added (Siri, 8 megapixel camera, HD video), and also improve the screen size, resolution, and overall speed of everything on the phone, I couldn't be more content.
Perhaps most importantly, the iPhone 5 is supposedly getting an upgrade from 3G technology - to 4G LTE. "Long-Term Evolution", or, LTE, boasts much higher download speeds and upload speeds than 3G. Apple apparently has wanted to implement 4G LTE into their earlier models of phones, but the cost of lower battery life and bulkier design was too much of a compromise. Fortunately for Apple, the developers of LTE have reported that a much thinner and equally functional version of LTE is in the works for the near future.
The display size will apparently be increased from 3.5 inches to 4 inches. Reports from blogs in Japan have stated that companies such as Hitachi and Sony have begun manufacturing and shipping 4-inch LCD panels for a "new iOS device" - this could be practically nothing other than an iPhone. These blogs have also spilled a few other hot stories - one stated that Apple has begun recruiting testers for the iPhone 5 and will apparently let the testers keep the product after (for free!). Some of the concept features look a little far fetched, but who knows. Also, the blogs have stated that the official release of the phone may be as early as March of 2012.
The display isn't just getting bigger. The resolution of the new phone is likely getting doubled, having an upgrade to somewhere around 2048 x 1536 pixels. This will mean outstanding quality for watching videos, viewing photos, video-chatting, etc., and that text and apps and such will be much more detailed and clear.
Well if that doesn't get you excited for it, I'm not sure what will! Perhaps the rumors of a laser keyboard and holographic display will perk you again. Let's just all hope that we won't have to wait much longer than March of next year for this wonderful thing.
