There are so many eBook Readers these days that it isn't very easy to tell just ONE great eReader. You might want to take some time to research exactly what differentiates each eBook Reader. It really depends on what your interests are and/or what is more important to you: battery life, LCD screen vs E Ink, etc. Before I get into this, I'll talk a little about the difference in technology.
.....Meh, you know what? I know that I'm supposed to write something interesting and professional but I really dislike writing. So, I'm just going to copy/paste a list of things that I like about eReaders..No, wait. Let's scratch that idea entirely. I hardly know ANYTHING about eReaders myself, other than what I read from Wikipedia and a few other sources that I can't for the life of me remember.
You know what else? I'm not even going to bother with making a beginning, middle and end because I'm a freaken MMO gamer and those rules do not apply to me. For awesomeness get the Kindle Fire HD because it plays video games. For the more serious types, just get yourself a KoBo Aura HD, because reviewers say that it's AWESOME for reading, that's why.
See? When I start writing the way that I want, then my creative mind sparks. Forget what they teach in in school anyway, they are just there for their damn money. But let's forget about school for now and get back to writing about eBook Readers. Seriously, I don't know that much about what is best.
I'll list a few more, because I CAN! If you really want to waste your money go get yourself an iPad Mini and we'll talk about how the display isn't so fun to use under the sun. OH! Here's a great one - Nook HD, hahah, how cool does that sound? It reminds me of Fallout 3 *sigh* I miss Black Isle Studios :(
Hmm, well I could go on and bore you with the details but I want YOU to search for them yourself. To be fair, I probably know about as much about eBook Readers as the next person. As long as you are willing to actually get down and dirty. What else was there? Apparently, Sony Librie was the first to make an eBook Reader that could read Electronic Paper (Wikipedia is your friend). This message will now self-destruct in 5...4....3...2....1! *Poof*
