From My Little Girl To A Wonderful Mother

When she came into the world I was overcome with joy. Staring through the maternity ward window so many thought's ran through my mind. This little angel was so perfect, everything in order Two little legs, two little feet with ten toes. Little hands with fingers and thumbs. She was not late nor early at birth and in perfect health. Her lungs also in excellent condition.

My wife and I had decided she would name a girl and I would name a boy. Being a girl she had the honor of naming our baby. I went to call the Grandparents to tell them the news and when I returned my wife had decided to change the baby's name, to my surprise I was stunned.

I could never imagine that one day my little beautiful girl would blossom into a wonderful mother herself. Since then it's been great being my little girls Dad. We've had our up's and down's in life. With her I've enjoyed T-ball, school plays, cheerleading, gymnastics, dance as well as picnics, fishing trips, vacations and other activities.

We've had our teenage boss years and driving lessons with some frightening moments. I've dealt with boyfriends and fights plus a few nervous nights. Being a girl's Dad is tough.

Not wanting to sound bias, it's hard to accept that my little girl has grown into a beautiful young woman with her own little girl. Looking at my granddaughters photos brings back memories of a little girl I once knew. A girl who needed her fathers help with many things she so wanted to accomplish for herself.

Learning to ride a bike without training wheels, having arguments over math homework or which pizza to order. No matter her age, in my eyes she will always be my little girl.

In 2004 my wife and I moved to Florida. We stopped by our daughters work to say goodbye. Burned deep in my mind is my daughters face as I drove from the parking lot, she stood in the middle of the lot with tears streaming down her face as she waved goodbye. I have never been so heartbroken.

It's sad how we lose track of time, not realizing how precious it is and before we know it has faded away. I want to take this time to wish my wife and daughters a Happy Mothers Day with hopes of many more. I lost my mother in 1999 but I have wished many times I could call her and wish a happy Mothers Day to her.
