How To Prepare For A Baby

Many women get very excited when they learn that they are going to have a baby. They take care of themselves by eating a proper diet, getting enough rest, and exercising. They buy the best-selling book, What to Expect When You're Expecting, go to their obstetrician for regular check-ups to make sure that their unborn baby is developing like he should, and begin setting up the bedroom so that everything will be in place when the baby arrives. Some mothers, upon learning that they will be having a girl, even enter the baby in a beauty pageant.

A baby is too young to know what is going on during the pageant. She will not understand what the bright lights, music, and cheering are all about. Rather than pageantry, she needs to spend time at home, bonding with her parents. She also needs a great deal of sleep. Later, when she is older, she will be able to participate in pageants if she wants to. She will be able to decide what she wants to do for the talent portion of the competition, and she will be able to practice and perfect her talent. She might decide to wow the audience with her singing or dancing, for example. She will also be able to give a good interview during the interview portion of the contest. Many people may wonder why a mother would enter her unborn baby in a beauty pageant.

One reason may be because she wishes that she had participated in a pageant when she was younger. She regrets not participating, therefore she wants her daughter to do what she did not get to do. Alternately, she may have participated in pageants, and she wants to relive the experience through her daughter.

Every girl is different, however. Some dream of becoming Miss America. They want to tour the country, speak at schools, sign autographs, and inspire young people to pursue their dreams. Other girls have different goals. They might want to be teachers who help their students to understand difficult concepts, doctors who develop cures for diseases, or best-selling authors who write books that millions of people want to read.

Parents want the best for their children, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, it is best for them to let their children decide what they want to do. Parents should be there to answer questions along the way. Then they can watch and see the beautiful people their children become.
