Hyland Teething Tabs - are they Really Risky?

There is a lot of debate around Hyland's Teething Tablets regarding the risk of seizures and harm to children. This stems form the ingredient Belladonna that is in the tablets. Now let's be real, there are risks with any type of pain relief medicine and if you ask me the risk of Homeopathic medicines like this are FAR less than taking something like ibuprofen, motrin, or tylenol. Not to mention that you have to carefully read dosage usage like any other medicine and follow them closely. If you do this then you will have no problems. I, personally, have been using Hyland's Teething Tablets for my baby for 3 months now with no problem. The key s to follow directions and use them ONLY when necessary.

Let's back up and actually discuss the ingredients that are in the teething tablets. I first want to verify these homeopathic medicines are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration as required by law. The production of Hyland's products occur in a validated process to ensure safe and consistent production output. This is similar to any other FDA-regulated drug on the market.

There are several homeopathic medicines used in the production of Hyland's Teething Tablets; the active ingredients are Calcarea Phosphorica, Chamomilla, Coffea Cruda, and Belladonna. Each ingredient is used in such miniscule amounts where side effects are unlikely. They also have very important roles in the tablets. Calcarea Phosphorica is added for the support of teeth formation, Chamomilla aids with irritability and Coffea Cruda works on reducing wakefulness and the increase in urination.

No we get to Belladonna. Belladonna is very effective at easing redness, inflammation, and general discomfort of your child's gums. Balladonna alkaloids is the portion of the plant which is related to side effects. According to the label on the Tablets there is only 0.0000000000003% Belladonna alkaloids in Hyland's Teething Tablets. This is about a thousand times less than what is used in the conventional medicines occasionally prescribed by doctors. The side effects that are associated with Belladonna alkaloids is from conventional medicines and is not seen in the homeopathic versions. Cause for concern is really unnecessary.

Due to the amazing results and reduction in fussiness and pain with our son, I am a strong advocate for teething tablets. I for one am not a mother who uses conventional medicines on my baby or even myself so I do my research before I use products. I have several friends who recommend them as well so I am confident they are as great as they seem!

Keep on keeping on! :)
