If you want to fulfil your dreams one of the things you’ll have to have rely on is your motivation. Motivation is the driving force which helps people to make life-enhancing changes and yet sometimes the internal desire for change or achievement , doesn’t align with their actions. Being able to supercharge your motivation will help you to keep your dreams on track even when the going gets tough. Here are 5 top tips to help you supercharge your motivation.
1. Create a picture board.
What are your dreams and goals? Create a picture board of the different things you want. it may be a change of job, a house move, getting fit. It doesn’t matter what it is – this is completely personal to you. Having a visual representation of you goals can act as a real motivator, reminding you of the things that matter, helping you to understand some of the choices you make and helping you to stay focussed. Keep the picture board somewhere highly visible, so you have a constant reference point.
2. Bin your moans and groans
Think about the areas of your life that you want to change and what has stopped you from making those changes before? Perhaps it is because the time wasn’t right, but often people make excuses for why they haven’t done things blaming themselves or other people. If you’re someone who mains about your current situation write it all down on paper. You’re not going to be showing this to anyone, but you do need to get rid of any rage or frustration that is holding you back. When you have completed the list read it one last time before ripping the paper to shreds. You’re not going to hang onto those negative thoughts. Time to banish them for good.
3. Value your time
Most people these days view their time as a valuable commodity. How much of your time do you spend working towards your goals? Only you will know if it’s enough, but making progress helps to keep you motivated. Look at your time and consider if you could use some of it more productively. Things like getting up half an hour earlier each day, or watching one less hour of television in the evening would free up some time that you could specifically use to do something towards your goal. It’s difficult to stay motivated or enthused about something if you don’t devote regular time to it. So start making your time count now!
4. Trust your own instincts
I often hear people regretting that they didn’t follow their own instincts. I’ve done it myself. People often feel that they have to conform and don’t feel that they can follow their own judgement. Well if that’s you, that has to stop now. Trust yourself, be prepared to be different, be prepared to take a risk. If something doesn’t work, it doesn’t matter – learn from it and move on. The important thing is to make progress and as you keep building upon your successes it will help you to stay motivated.
5. Face your fear
Fear is that pesky thing that so often stops people from fulfilling their potential. There’s not getting away from it that you have to rid yourself of it, or learn how to keep it under control. So often people worry about things that might happen, only for the reality not to be as bad. Commit to facing your fears and turning what may seem impossible to possible. Every time you actually complete something that you were afraid of make a note of it. This list will act as a reminder of what you can and have achieved. Start facing that fear today.
