Most people nowadays have an email address and most people check their mailbox every day. So then it makes sense to want to receive a little inspiration every day, delivered to a place that you check anyway. You may have heard of daily self motivation emails, but do motivational emails actually work? Do they motivate you?
I have been receiving motivational emails for a few years now and I want to share my experience with you and attempt to explain the effect its had on me. There is also a fundamental principle behind daily motivation and I'd like to highlight where the daily emails fit into the equation.
First, I need to mention that you get various motivational services and just like in other industries, there is some rubbish in between. So when I refer to daily emails, I mean the ones that actually provide useful information/techniques and not the ones that make you say "uuhhhh... I guess..." in a 'whatever!' type of way... And second, you also 'get what you pay for'. You cannot expect a free average-Joe service to have the same effect as a paid-for service from a large company, using techniques based on years of research and development.
The Fundamental Principle of Motivational Emails:
So what is the purpose of daily motivation anyway? Is there any point to 'motivating' someone everyday, repeating the same thing over and over? I strongly believe that the best motivation is the one that sticks! The motivation that got you fired up yesterday can be the same motivation you use today. The difference though being that today you dont need it because you got 'it' yesterday ('it' being the message that came from the email). Another difference is that, you'll notice, nothing changed through the motivational process, except your perspective, thoughts and ultimately your attitude.
This brings me to the fundamental principle behind motivational emails; that they alter your attitude! For instance, I once received an email entitled 'You can always wash your hands'. It referred to the fact that one can always start with a clean slate, which is quite 'common knowledge'. Although, for me it was so profound in the way that the message was brought across. I literally imagined being able to wash my hands, when taking out the rubbish for instance. The principle then became very clear to me when I realised that I automatically applied this 'attitude' to other situations, without actually motivating myself to do it - my attitude changed!
Conclusion:
The fundamental principle behind good motivational emails is to positively change your attitude. This type of motivation sticks with you. How do you motivate someone that believes he cannot be successfull at something? You change his attitude towards how he sees himself and his abilities! This tends to release the can-do and will-do attitude in most people. Some people dont find it easy to keep up with the mental mindset change and thats why the motivational emails work well; to give you that much needed daily affirmation.
So, do I believe that daily motivational emails work? Absolutely! There is no doubt in my mind that with the right system and some dedicated effort, it will make a difference. They key here is to realise that motivation starts with a belief, an attiude that can be transformed by a daily motivational email.
