How to Get Motivated - Quickly

Most adults have wondered at one time in their life how to get motivated. The important thing is to take action and kick start your motivation as quickly as possible. No one can do this for you. You have to make a conscious decision that you want to get motivated and use a range of strategies to get motivated and don’t procrastinate to the extent it becomes a real problem. The quicker you can move forward the better. Shown below are 7 tips on how to get motivated quickly.

How to get motivated: Tip 1 – Have clear goals

Yes it may seem to be a very obvious piece of advice but in order to get motivated it’s very important that you have some short-term goals that you want to achieve. Don’t try doing too much too quickly. Short-term goals are those that you can complete in a day, within a week or within a few months.

How to get motivated: Tip 2 – Don’t kid yourself

Be honest about your starting point and don’t try to over reach yourself. If you’ve struggled with motivation in the past think about what you did or didn’t do and what strategies can you take if you find yourself flagging. Quite often people are not honest with themselves and come up with all sorts of excuses why they can’t do something. Don’t fall into this trap.

How to get motivated: Tip 3 – Filter out background noise

It’s really important that when you’re working towards your goals that do not allow yourself to become distracted by lots of things that are unimportant. Many people are very proud of ticking lots of items off a never ending to do list. However, it’s more important that you concentrate on things that matter.

How to get motivated: Tip 4 – Be prepared to take risks

Getting motivated sometimes means having to take a risk. The risk may be trying something you’re scared of, or afraid of failing at or even something you’re fearful of succeeding at. In order to get motivated and reach your chosen goals you have to confront those fears and be prepared to have a go. Don’t let any negative self-talk stop you from taking a risk.

How to get motivated: Tip 5 – Monitor your progress

An important part of getting motivated is to monitor your progress. Keep some sort of log so that you recognise when you have come through difficulties or setbacks but have continued on to achieve your goals. It’s important to acknowledge your achievements however small the steps, because it will help to motivate you as you see how much progress you’ve made.

How to get motivated: Tip 6 – Avoid energy sappers

Energy sappers are people who will suck all the energy out of your, either by being bitchy, overly needy, nasty. Try and avoid anyone who is a negative influence and concentrate on the positive people in your life.

How to get motivated: Tip 7 – Just start

There comes a point when the only way to get motivated is to make a start. The more you think about the more likely you are to procrastinate. If you’re finding it difficult to get started break things down into smaller chunks or try a method like the 5 minute more rule.

In order to get motivated quickly, you need to make the decision to have a go, set some realistic goals, take risks and be honest with yourself. Be careful to prioritise your goals and don’t get caught up in other things that aren’t important. Monitor your progress so that you’re able to recognise and celebrate your achievements and avoid anyone who is going to be a negative influence. Don’t hesitate any longer. Get motivated and get started.
