One of the biggest problems new network marketers have is motivating themselves to achieve their goals, to finish what they started, to just be all they can be. I've been in that same position myself. Just wanting to give up on my dreams. Anytime I'm feeling this way, I go grab a motivational tape or CD to listen to. Once such audio book is "100 Ways To Motivate Yourself" by Steven Chandler. I'm going to give you a few tips from this book on how to motivate yourself and stay motivated.
Steven Chandler says that the first thing you need to do is to "create a vision" of yourself. In other words, create the image you want people to see. Paint a picture of yourself in your mind first of how you want people to see you and then portray that image.
Another thing that will motivate you is to "plan your work". You have to plan what you want out of life, plan how you are going to get it. you need to layout your plan step-by-step. You cannot achieve your goals without first writing a plan.
Move your goal post - you should have a power goal that is big enough to drive you. Your goal should be something that stirs your emotions every time you think about it. Every time you feel unmotivated you can just think about your power goal and it will be able to push you like nothing else will.
Leave your comfort zone - we need to be able to face challenges, face our fears. You are never going to make it anywhere by just taking the safe path or doing those things that are comfortable for you. Get out there and face your fears. If you're afraid of talking to people. Start calling your prospects up and face those fears. I guarantee this will motivate you to no end.
Play your character - how you act is what you become. If you want to be rich, you will have to start acting and looking the part. Change your lifestyle little by little.
Leave high school behind - stop worrying about what other people think or will think about you. If you continuously worry about what other people are thinking you will never be motivated to achieve your goals.
Kill your television - stop watching other people do what they love doing. Instead of fantasizing about the people on television and what they own or how much money they have, you go out their and make your dreams come true.
Read yourself a story - Instead of reading in your mind, read it aloud. You tend to remember more when you read things aloud. Audio books are a great idea, because you can even listen to these while you are driving, when you are in bed, even when you're out running or walking.
Get on your deathbed - imagine yourself on your deathbed and ask yourself, what did I give to the world, what legacy did I leave behind. If you cannot answer these questions, this should be enough motivation for you to do more than what you are doing now, to be more, to accomplish what you want to accomplish.
Leave your friends behind - leave all those negative people behind. You don't need people around you who are going to bring you down and discourage you every time you mention your goals. Find positive friends, find like-minded people who share some of your dreams.
Be where you are - Focus what you want and you will get it. Focus on your goal and stop thinking about all those other insignificant things.
Accept your willpower - everyone has willpower. You must develop your willpower and make it strong. This is what is going to help you achieve your goals, this will keep you from giving up.
Open the present - don't live in the past, don't live in the future, focus on what is happening now.
Give away some power - motivate yourself by motivating someone else. I think this is one of the most important things to motivate yourself. It makes you feel so good to make other people feel good. You should always encourage other people, point out their strengths and always tell them that they can achieve their goals, they can make their dreams come true.
Be a finisher - finishing a project will definitely motivate you. It always makes me feel good to know that I finished something I'd been working on for a while. It makes you want to do more. The more things you finish the more confident you become.
These are just a few of the things I learned from Steven Chandler's book, but they are such pearls of wisdom. If you haven't read or listened to the book, I do advise you to do so.
You definitely must be here in the NOW and focus on taking the correct action steps to accomplish your goals. And more importantly you must meet the deadlines because if you do not then you are day dreaming! Lawrence Bergfeld
