The will to act, to right a wrong, is born from love, from passion. If you see something happening which you deem to be wrong, or if someone wrongs you, surely you should put it right? If someone wrongs someone that you care about, surely you should act? Inaction is born from fear; The fear of pain perhaps, possibly the fear of death in certain situations. Maybe the fear of society's view on your actions.
Either our generation is consumed by fear, or there is a distinct lack of passion within us. More often than not we seem happy to watch things happen or allow them to happen to ourselves and do nothing to prevent it because 'it's not our problem' or 'it doesn't matter'. Those are weak excuses. IT DOES MATTER.
If you are not willing to fight for something: be it love, a friend, respect, money even, then what right do you have to those things? None. If the fear of the consequences outweighs the passion you hold for your cause then you may as well give up before you even start.
What do you really have to be afraid of?
Are you afraid of the opinion of society? Then fall in with the rest and enjoy your life of subtle oppression at the hands of those who will always see themselves as better than you.
Are you afraid of pain? Physical pain is nothing compared to the mental torture of regret. Knowing that you could have acted, but didn't, will scar far worse than any cut.
Are you afraid of death? Why fear the inevitable? Would you rather die fighting for something that you believe to be right, or die knowing that you sat back and did nothing? A man of faith will die believing that death will bring a whole new life, and an Atheist will die believing that life is futile in the first place, so why be afraid?
If we continue to sit back and just watch the injustice that goes on around us every day, then we will have no right to complain when we no longer like what we see when we open the curtains. If we allow injustice to continue, then we are partially to blame for the consequences of someone else's actions. We cannot allow ourselves to feel guilty any longer.
There is no excuse for inaction. We have nothing to fear but our own lack of courage.
