Self Improvement Ideas for Seniors

There are so many ideas for self improvement and the fact you are older should not stop you from making yourself a better you. I'd like to put forth a short list of ideas for starters.

WAKE UP EARLIER

If you spend the morning hours in bed, start a new trend. Get up earlier, start with a healthy breakfast and look forward to all you can do that day. Make a list of things to do and do them. You will find that at the end of the day you're tired and go to bed to get a decent night's sleep. A good night's sleep is so beneficial.

LEARN SOMETHING NEW

Find a local community college, library, senior center or any place of learning where you can take a course in something you've always been interested in or just a subject you a wanted to know more about.

Most people classify reading into fiction and non-fiction. I classify reading into relaxation (which turns out to be fiction) and learning. Learning covers a multitude of topics that tend to make you smarter. A good mix of both will prove to be good for you.

TO-DO LIST

Some people might call this a bucket list. Make a list of things or accomplishments you have always wanted to do. Be as daring as you want, even if an item is beyond your wildest dreams. Plan your dream vacation. Make a sizable donation to a charity. Go sky diving. buy a motorcycle. Just throw caution to the wind. After all, it's only a list, but it gives you reasons to live.

MAKE NEW FRIENDS

This should be easy if you are learning new things, because you will be associating with people with similar interests. Not only do you share similar interests, but you share the desire to learn new things. These are people who have a positive attitude about life (your kind of people).

WRITE YOU PERSONAL HISTORY

I did this and was so glad I did it. If you don't tell your story, no one will ever learn about it. My grandchildren were pleasantly surprised in learning about their family history. I posted the history in a blog. I had in-laws calling me and telling me the blog was wonderful. I have been blessed with marvelous relatives and it was good to write about them and say how much they meant to me.

DEVELOP GOOD HABITS

If you smoke, quit. If you drink too much, stop. Stop doing things that are harmful to you and start doing things that help. Eat healthy, exercise and develop habits that will increase your health.

Street Talk

All great points Jack. As a person ages they do need to fill the holes that open up.
