The Death Of Motivation

Terry reached out eagerly and took another drink from her cup of motivation. She was happier than she had been in a long time. Putting the cup down she took a moment to realign her dreams. She had finally found that elusive motivation that would allow her dreams to come true.

Walking down the stairs she was sure that she would make it work this time. She would be the wife and mother she had always dreamed of being. She would also get her business off the ground allowing both her and her family the financial freedom they all deserved. Humming to herself she walked into the living room thinking how different the next day at work would be now that she was so motivated.

She had been right, work had been great and was still great. Her friends were so happy for her and the naysayers seemed to be leaving her alone. Yeah she had heard some half whispered comments about her but they talked about every one.

Signing she walked into her house it had been months since that first drink( really it had been a huge gulp) of motivation and now well she was just tired. Walking in she saw her son laying listlessly on the couch. Sighing she put off her plans to finish her business plan and take care of him he was such a little peanut.

It had not taken that long a couple of days he had to be home from school he had the flu which meant she was home. Every day she had said she would work on that plan while he was sleep but everyday something else needed done. There was always a reason not to do it.

Signing she thought about how work was not so great lately. It felt like the walls were closing in and the hope she had of one day leaving to manage her own business seemed like more of a pipe dream now. She felt her shoulders droop like the weight of the world was on her.

Hey babe she said to her husband giving him a fake smile, I am going to start dinner. Grabbing her around the waist he replied wait speedy. Why don't I make dinner and you can spend some time working on your business plan. Immediately a lump of dread hit her stomach.

I don't want to impose dear. Don't be silly he laughed. We got this I will have the kids help they will love it. Reluctantly she turned and walked into the small room in the front of the house. They had taken the time to turn it into an office. She had done so much in this room and the kids would come in and play quietly some times. After they were in bed her husband would come in and work on his sketching. He had two pictures almost complete and they were good. When she stopped coming in to work so had he.

Sitting down she looked at her cup of motivation sitting before her. It was in the forms of books and tapes and of course online seminars when was the last time she had read or listened to one? Flipping through her business plan she remembered what her mentor had said.

Terry this is good and can work, there are a few minor changes you need to make before you show it. That's when it happened she was sure. Was it fear of failure or maybe success or something different who knew but in that minute she seemed to freeze. She had been unable to take that last step. So did this mean her motivation was dead or that she was somehow meant to never succeed?

Suddenly she was in the seventh grade again listening to the teacher read "What happens to a dream deferred?" Suddenly she got it and she realized that it was not her motivation in jeopardy of dying but her dreams were at stake. Slowly she put her hand out hovering over her cup of motivation could she take the next step she wondered and make her dreams come true? What would she do?

The real question here is what will you?
