Comfortable Sport Bike Grips

To anyone who has ever ridden a motorcycle for even a slightly extended period of time, you can easily relate to the discomfort you begin to feel after being on the throttle the entire time.

This problem is most often associated with sport bikes because they tend to have a more leaned in body style causing more pressure to rest within the hands/wrist areas since they are constantly leaning on the handlebars.

Well after a decent amount of time of constantly controlling the throttle your hand begins to wear out and likely go numb. This is why it is important to factor in grip styles and options when assessing what bike you are going to be riding and how you are going to ride it.

For those looking for a more comfortable ride, it is important to assess the style of riding and then go from there. For example, if your bike is prone to large amounts of vibration or rough riding then it is best that you find a well cushioned grip to keep your hands comfortable as it these grips can absorb more of the shock from riding. If you tend to get sweaty hands then look for grip choices that allow for more airflow. Lots of grips have woven patterns using leather or even large grooved areas for air circulation under and around the palms.

To make the ride even more comfortable, many people choose to "enhance" their grips by adding what is known as a throttle paddle (CrampBuster) to make things easier. This paddle slips on to the motorcycle's throttle and what it does basically is allows the rider to utilize more of the base of their palm to open up the throttle rather than having to maintain a tight grip the entire time.

To take things one step further there are even aftermarket parts available that allow for cruise control on almost any motorcycle. Lots of expensive touring bikes come with cruise control built-in but for sport bike riders there really isn't an option and most don't see the need for such a thing. However, there are those out there that ride for extended periods of time and would like this option as well.

Small additions/changes such as finding the right grips, adding a throttle paddle, or even springing for some cruise control can make a HUGE difference in the comfort of riding. For most small trips it usually isn't a big deal but after maintaining such a firm grip on the handle bars with all of your body weight leaning forward for an hour or two, you will be glad to make the switch over to a more comfortable set up.

Now these sound good, often wondered when seeing bikers on long trips if their hands don;t suffer. Now I know and nice to know someone came up with a solution.

Yeah I never realized this either and my hands would seriously start to ache after riding around all day. I never invested in one, but with my next bike I likely will.
