I recently decided to take a vacation over the summer to visit my cousin in Europe. Since I had never been before, I was very excited to go. I didn't have any school obligations to worry about, so I decided to spend two months over there. My cousin and I both love to ride our motorcycles and we discussed the possibility of me shipping my motorcycle overseas so that we could ride around when I got there.
I had shipped a motorcycle once before when I purchased mine, but that was within the United States and only about 500 miles. I had never shipped a motorcycle outside of the country, so I had no idea what was involved or what the cost would be. I really wanted to ride my motorcycle there, so I did some research to find out more about overseas motorcycle shipping.
The first thing you will want to do is to set your travel dates and arrange the shipping. Motorcycles are usually transported by ship across the ocean, so it can take a month or longer for the bike to arrive, so you want to plan in advance. It is possible to have it shipped by plane, which is quicker, but much more expensive.
The next step is to pick a company to ship your motorcycle. If you check around online, you will find that there are several different services to choose from. But, you will want to hire a service that has plenty experince in international motorcycle shipping. Also, check around to see what others are saying about the company and if they were satisfied with their experience.
When you find a couple of companies you feel comfortable with, get shipping quotes from each one. Overseas motorcycle shipping is not cheap, so you will want to try and save as much money as you can. One thing you can do to save money shipping a motorcycle is to choose port to port shipping, as opposed to door to door. By using port to port, you will drop off your motorcycle at a shipping port and pick it up at another. This option is cheaper than the door to door service.
After you have the date and selected a shipping service, the only thing left to do is to prepare your motorcycle for shipping. Each service has different requirements, so you will need to check with the company for exact instructions. Some international motorcycle shipping services require you to crate or pallet your motorcycle before shipping. Others will handle that for you for an additional charge.
