Ladies Motorcycle Half Helmets

Through my twenty some odd years of riding there's one thing that remains relatively constant, the clear and present annoyance of "helmet head"!. Even as a male motorcycle enthusiast I can appreciate the mental anguish experienced by most females and some of the guys, although we won't admit to it!, when you pull a helmet over the best you've looked in a while. It's like riding with a stone in your shoe, you just wanna pull over and fix it!. I am currently residing in central Florida, so I've solved this issue with very short hair and a flat top!. But as ashamed as I am to admit it, I used to ride sporting a mullet-hawk, spiked on top. Although advancements in technology have allowed for much more comfortable and lighter helmets, it has not helped with the perfect hair demolishing plight of protective head gear. A half helmet can serve to ease this perplexing dilemma as your hair is still getting mashed, it's mostly just cranium crunch.

Fortunately technological advancements have provided a less destructive option for the dreaded helmet head. A half helmet is a slight improvement on the traumatic experience of donning personal protection gear, more specifically bidding ado to A Hair Do!. While you are obviously limiting the effectiveness of your head gear's protective qualities with a half helmet, they are much more advanced than the Evel Kenievel helmets of the 1960's-70's.

Recent developments have produced half helmets with slide down blast shields that are sunglasses like visors. I purchased my half helmet four years ago and this option was not yet available!. If it was I would have gladly paid a bit more for the that option. However with researching the available versions of these style of half helmets, I found that there are some flaws that come along with retractable visors. Some reviews describe visors that don't extend down sufficiently and others with a louder wind noise amplified by the additional wind bearing surface.

When purchasing any form of personal protective gear, research should be part of the equation. A excellent way to find out details about a product is to read customer reviews. In the reviews you will find information on a motorcycle helmets fitting, feeling and performance from regular people like you and me!. There can be a wide variety of performance levels in half helmets and you should not assume one will perform or feel as good as another. Also you should make sure your half helmet is at the least a U.S. DOT or European ECE22-05 certified helmet, any helmet without these is not proven as sufficient protection in the unfortunate occurrence of a accident. The modern day half helmets are advanced polycarbonate composite shells.

I used to work with some Harley guys that all rode customized bikes and spent their lives chasing the elusive trophies for their customization jobs. All of the bikes were LOUD, and none of these guys wore a full helmet. Their justification, Full helmets limit their peripheral view. The noise was so that the 4 wheelers could hear them coming. It was their version of personal protection.

Good article. A long time since I had a bike but Iremember how restrictive a helmet could be. Not good for a fancy hairdo.
