Sometimes simple is cool, and this is one cool Harley, this soft tail springer has been around for a while rolling off the production line in 1996, this second owner machine was originally in red as i remember, having know the owner, Grum, for over 30 years. He has made some very simple but effective customizing mods to this hog that make for a clean unadulterated look that i like and so do many others.
Back to Black.
Black would not be the choice of many, usually custom paint jobs especially on a Harley can be very detailed and very effective and a very costly, some folk spending thousands on a paint job, there are some very skilled custom sprayers out there capable of producing some outstanding work, but at a price as you would expect. So although Grum was in a position to pay for a detailed paint job he chose black and to me a wise choice. The combination of black and use of lots of chrome and polished alloy works to great effect producing a simple look.
Wheels and Calipers
The wheels and calipers fitted to this machine some years ago, about 2005, would be classed as an exotic mod by many, the cost of which would amount to a months wages for some and more, but the result is worth the investment, as they a commented on by all that admire this machine, a new front master cylinder and brake pedal and linkage upgrade were fitted at the same time to complete to job.
Tank and Seat
Also about the same time a Corbin Stiletto seat was fitted which helps to keep a clean line along with a stretched tank, which was painted black as you can see. A lowering kit was also used to drop this hog down shade, 2 inches at the rear and an 1 inch at front.
To Sum It Up
Overall this Harley ticks a lot of boxes for me on the looks front, all polished up there is plenty of shine if you have time, you can spend a day buffing this beauty if your fussy. But it also has a simplistic look about it that says ride me and enjoy, don't be afraid. Some machines although works of art are not what you would class as usable machine, more suitable for photo shoots with leggy young ladies astride them. I feel you can over do it at times with aftermarket spares and modifications and there are plenty for the Harley rider, sometimes a little restraint is needed and there you have it, as good as it gets, in my opinion that is. Nice 1
