Sport Bike Riders - The Self Proclaimed Club

I ride a sport bike so I am inherently awesome and on a different level than those who who don't ride. Right? Wrong. If there is one glaring negative aspect about riding sport bikes it is the "self-proclaimed" riders who have ruined the image for the rest of us. Before I go on my rant let me preface by saying that this is NOT a stab at every rider out there but merely an observation that you can take with a grain of salt.

When you think of a someone who owns a sporty motorcycle you likely get an quick image in your head: a teenager or young adult who likely spent money they didn't have in order to up their cool status. A rider who doesn't play by the rules and will rip through traffic wearing nothing but cargo shorts and a t-shirt. Can't risk wearing a helmet to hide the "cool" guy underneath.

For those of you unfortunate enough to have run ins with these self proclaimed riders let me apologize, we aren't all like that. I'm talking about those who think that their expensive bike somehow makes them better than the average person, or how their "ability" to ride a motorcycle has given them some special membership that is closed off from the general public.

First off, I will admit that when you ride a motorcycle you do feel like you belong to something different. This is because it is something that not everyone will do so it has a more special meaning to it. However, the last time I checked, anyone with money and the dedication to learn can own and ride one! Meaning it is NOT exclusive so this attitude needs to be dropped.

Luckily these types of riders are easy to spot. They are the ones not wearing proper gear (looking like they just got out of their last high school class for the day), the ones riding wheelies through busy city streets, the ones tailgating and staying in your blind spots, and basically the ones doing everything you SHOULDN'T do while on a motorcycle.

Again, nothing wrong with enjoying the ride and having fun, but there is always a proper place and channel to do so. You wanna race or do wheelies? Find an empty area or dedicated race track. Want to think you are cooler than other riders because you purchased a fast expensive bike? Give yourself a few years of riding and maturing and then think about that again.

Like I said, not all riders are like this and I've even written an article about how a motorcyclist could be anyone including your neighborhood schoolteacher. We do, however, have a bad reputation (especially among sport bike riders) for being pretentious and self entitled. So to all the sport bike riders out there, enjoy the fact that you get to ride and be happy with that!

I have met so many good guys and women that ride bikes its not true. I must admit not that many that are ar...les. but I have seen many ride past that have a total death wish or something of that nature who think the roads were built only for them.

Exactly. There are many like we have discussed before that simply want to ride but unfortunately we have those riders out there who thing they have special privileges!
