If Video Killed the Radio Star What Will the Internet do to TV?
The digital revolution company Apple is at it again. After getting consumers addicted to all things "i" (iphones, ipads, ipods, imacs), what could they possibly come up with next? Well apparently the answer is iTV. Apple intends to bring their plethora of apps and easy media synchronization to the TV experience. Television manufacturers should feel intimidated since the iphone redefined the meaning of a 'smartphone' and many cell phone manufactures have been trying to keep up with the irevolution ever since.
News on Music TV Shows
ABC puts Country Music on Television
Get ready for a country music on television invasion! I am not talking about the Country Music Channel but two new shows to air on ABC. ABC's allegedly cancelled Sunday prime time show GCB gave TV viewers a taste with Kristin Chenoweth s rendition of Jesus Take the Wheel. ABC will take it up a notch with soap opera style musical drama Nashville. The show was filmed on location and stars actresses Hayden Panettiere and Connie Britton as country music artists forced to tour together.
ABC will also bring country music star Reba McEntire back to prime time in a sitcom called Malibu Country where she relocates from Nashville to Malibu as a divorced mom with three children (that last part sounds familiar). Will you be watching?
The Problem with Success from TV Competitions
Singing TV competitions give contestants advantages that other music artists pursuing careers in the industry do not have. Contestants on TV competitions get television exposure that can help them find new fans and access to music industry insiders. Each week judges give TV competition contestants personalized critiques and feedback on how they can improve. There are however drawbacks to finding success from TV competitions as former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert recently pointed out to the Washington Post.
Lambert noted that the TV competitions like American Idol do not necessarily prepare the contestants for the music industry. Music artists who make their way to the top overtime gain gradual experience within the music industry while final contestants of singing TV competitions are thrust into the music industry sometimes with seemingly overnight success.
Missing Music Videos on Television? Problem Solved
I have long given up on TV as a source for music videos and have instead been getting my music video fix from online video sites like Vevo and YouTube. Newcomer Cull TV has quietly made it s mark as a music video site featuring content from indie artists. The online music video site also allows viewers to create their own music video channel with music videos selected by them. Cult TV will have a new place within the social video arena since it was recently acquired by Twitvid.
