I have often wondered if fairy tale author's base their stories on facts. Most stories do have some basis in life. When I was younger I was obsessed with the children’s rhyme and game: “Ring around the Roses.” My sister and I would play the game over and over. My favorite part was: “ashes, ashes, we all fall down!”
At this point, we both would always fall on the floor, holding hands laughing. Of course, we would jump up again and start the fun all over. Each time running faster and faster in a circle, holding hands, chanting: “ring around the roses, pocket full of posies.” Both us just couldn’t wait to get to the point where we could “fall down.”
As I grew older I began to wonder at the “ashes, ashes” part of the game. When I was young the words didn’t mean anything to me. When I was older I learned the meaning of the words. I finally asked my Mom about them one day. She explained that the rhyme was about the plague in England in the late 1500’s.
When I learned that the “fall down” part of the rhyme was talking about each time a person died of the plague, I began to wonder, how many other games, legends, stories are "true"? How many fair tale author's base their stories on facts? This fascination has stayed with me.
While I cannot prove that Snow White actually lived or that werewolves are real, I do like to suspend my disbelief each time I watch some of the new great shows on TV this season. Grimm on NBC and Once Upon a Time on ABC are some of my new instant favorites.
Although the two have parallel story lines and take from similar fairy tale stories, they are completely different shows.Grimm writers' use a darker, more horror, and C.S.I. approach to the fairy tale stories. Once Upon A Time centers on story lines focused on lost loves and separated families.
Can fairy tale stories be true? Any thing is possible. I prefer to remain optimistic and watch Grimm and Once Upon a Time to see their creative writers, crew, talented actors and actress play out their version of the truth.
Our favorite shows! My husband and I seldom watch TV but these are our favorite. We know so many couples that set aside time to watch them. It is interesting to see the core of "reality" that runs through the "fairy tales".
Thanks so much for your comment! I set aside time too...glad I am not the only one who sees a bit of "reality" :)
And why can they not be true, anything possible within the mind.
True...anything is possible :) Thanks so much for your comment!
