Searching for Fearless movie Jet Li? Great! This is one of my favorite movies and let me share a review about the story of this film.
Fearless Movie Story
Fearless is actually based on the true story of Huo Yuanjia, a legendary martial artist in China. Hou challenged lots of foreign fighters in public to bring back the pride of China during the time of Western and Japanese invasion.
I like how the story started. I love martial art movies so I enjoyed watching those martial art fights from the beginning. of course I also like Jet Li. Those Wushu moves from all of his movies are really fantastic to me.
Going back to the beginning of this movie, Huo was fighting with many foreigners. He defeated two big British fighters when Tanaka, a Japanese fighter was already the next in line. They cut the fight though making a flashback when Huo was still young.
Hou is a son of a Wushu master but his father forbade him to practice martial arts due to his asthma. He was persistent though to learn. His father had a fight in public one day when he went to watch it. His father, not wanting to hurt the opponent, however, gave up the fight and so he fall from the ring. The son of the one who defeated his father then bullied him. Because of that, he all the more wanted to learn Wushu. He grabbed a Wushu book from their house and tried to learn in his own while his genius best friend is doing his school assignments.
Fast forward and he grew up as a great Wushu fighter and an undefeated one. He vowed to his father that he will surely make Wushu great. Well, he got what he wanted but he was too much in achieving his goal. He really wanted glory from the crowd praising him as the greatest fighter. His best friend is keep on rebuking him but he would not listen. He even killed another great fighter who disciplined one of his disciples.
He however was placed in another town where he learned a lot of great lesson in life. There, he learned the proper use of martial arts and not just a matter of becoming a champion. He then returned to his home town when there are already many foreign invaders.
He talked to his best friend and he wanted to do Wushu again. This time, he is a changed man and his best friend like his idea. They gathered many foreign fighters and the scene went back to what was shown in the beginning of the film. Before this fight, he first met the undefeated Japanese fighter and they had a date with a tea.
He defeated all of his opponents and the last fight would be with Tanaka, the Japanese samurai. A Japanese promoter tricked Huo by letting him drink a poison but Huo still managed to fight. He could have killed the Japanese with his hand blow but he did not do it until he fell because of the poison. The referee announced Tanaka as the winner but he would not accept it. He still raised Huo's arm as the winner.
Well, a lot of great details happened in the movie and I know I missed a lot. I just can't mention them all here. What I can say is I really enjoyed watching the movie. The martial art moves are cool and the lessons in the story are great. This really one of the best movies I have ever watched.
