Get Internet on Your Tv; Change How You Watch

There's a lot of talk around about streaming TV. Netflix, Hulu, iTunes and others are becoming household names and many people aren't really even sure how to use them (start by getting internet on your TV), or why these services compete directly with their current cable or satellite service (similar media selection, on demand all the time). This article is a brief overview of how you can start streaming media to your TV and maybe one day soon you'll be able to get rid of your cable or satellite TV service!

There are a few types of products that are most commonly used to access the internet from your television. They are:

  • Media Players
  • Gaming Systems
  • Blu-Ray Players
  • Computers
  • Smart TVs

Each of these options will offer you the ability to watch a streaming media service like Hulu and Netflix. They'll each give you the ability to listen to music through services like Spotify and Pandora. They'll all allow you to browse the web as well.

They start to differ when you start looking at additional features. Some media players integrate with your existing cable or satellite connection. Gaming systems, computers and some media players give access to games. Blu-ray players and computers allow you to still watch your existing DVDs and Blu-Rays. And of course, all of these come at a wide variety of prices (starting at $60 and going up from there.)

Since there are so many different options it's important to make sure you consider them all to make sure you are as happy as possible with your internet TV experience.

  • Do you have a large preexisting DVD/Blu-Ray collection? Maybe a Blu-Ray player or computer is the way to go.
  • Thinking about buying a game system anyway? This may be a push over the edge if you consider the possible savings on your cable bill.
  • On a tight budget? Media players start as low as $60 and provide all the functionality to watch online streaming content from Hulu, Netflix and others.
  • Buying a new TV? Smart TVs come preloaded with the ability to access the internet along with all the other hi-tech bells and whistles you want from a brand new TV.

Why go through all this trouble? Just to save a few bucks a month? No thanks!

Well, it's not just about saving money (though that's a big reason for a lot of people.) No, a huge convenience that streaming media provides is on-demand selection. DVRs have provided us with some of that over the last decade or so. The catalogs that streaming media services provide take the DVR concept to the next level.

In essence, these subscription based media services are like having a DVR with a MASSIVE hard drive, recording shows constantly and without worry if anyone is ever going to watch. Regardless if you're GOING to watch it, it's there IN CASE you want to. It's like the DVR evolved.

Streaming media is, simply put, the way people will be watching TV in ten years. In fact, we're already starting to see the evolution today, in the products and subscription services discussed here. Simply put, the world is changing how it gets it's entertainment, leaving consumers with two choices: change as well or be left in the past. It's up to you!
