With varying standards of professionalism by wedding video specialists and customer expectations, how do you know if your wedding videographer has done a good job?
Here are some points to help you evaluate and make the decision as to whether or not your videographer has done a good job.
1, Is the footage in focus. A good wedding videographer should have shot the footage in focus at least 95 percent of the time. Wedding camera work can be difficult because people move quite spontaneous at a wedding and therefore the camera man is expected to be able to direct the camera to match the action. Doing this and keeping in focus is a difficult job, but a professional with much experience should be able to manage this most of the time.
2, Is the sound quality good. A wedding videographer must be ready to adjust the sound as the day goes on. For example the first dance is always very loud and the vows are always very quiet. Having experienced this many time the camera man should be prepared to alter sound levels if they quickly change and should have a good idea of what sound level to record at before that stage of the wedding day commences. If the recording level is too low you will not be able to hear what is happening. If the recording level is two high, then the sound will distort.
3, All aspects of the day are included in the dvd. The wedding videographer should be able to be in the right place at the right time to make sure that all important elements of the day are included. The videographer should constantly check that there is no change in the order of the day and the time that things are happening in order to ensure that all important things are included.
4, There should be a nicely exposed picture. The footage should not be too dark and should also not be be over exposed (bleached out). Some times where the camera man is shooting is dark and so he must do everything he can to make the picture look brighter. These include open the iris, increase the gain/iso/, remove an nd filters, slow the shutter speed and switch on his top light. If the footage is still dark he should lift it in post production.
If the wedding videographer has adhered in the main to these quality checks then he has essentially done a good job. If your wedding video has all these features then you should be happy with the result.
