The Hunger Games movie cast will no doubt remain buzz-worthy for some time to come.
The film adaptation of the Suzanne Collins book series, first published in 2008, appears to be on track to outpace previous blockbusters including the ever popular Harry Potter series.
Topping the box office for three weeks in a row the dystopian drama has reportedly grossed over 400 million dollars.
Ups and Downs Abound.
Since its' opening weekend (March 23rd) the movie and its' cast has only continued to climb in popularity, and though a certain sense of fandemonium fills the air, the film and its' cast has not been without critics and controversy.
From alleged race tensions regarding actor choices to rumored disgruntled negotiations for the return of director Gary Ross.
No matter how you spin it though there is no denying that the Hunger Games has become a pop culture phenomenon and it doesn't appear that it will be dieing out any time soon.
Following is a list of the main characters in the movie and the actors who portray them.

Katniss Everdeen - Jennifer Lawrence - The lead character in The Hunger Games, Katniss if from District 12 where she lives with her mother and younger sister, Primrose. When Primrose is chosen to take part in the Hunger Games, Katniss volunteers to take her place, in hopes of sparing her sisters life.

Peeta Mellark - Josh Hutcherson - Also from District 12 and a little better off than others, Peeta, the son of the local baker is at least able to have something to eat, although it's mostly stale leftovers from the bakery. Peeta is selected as the male tribute from District 12 to take part in the games. Katniss and Peeta have a history together even though they never really spoke until the Hunger Games.

Primrose Everdeen - Willow Shields - Prim, for short, the 12 year old younger sister of Katniss. Katniss' love for Prim is evident in her quote stating that Prim is "the only person I'm certain I love and would do anything to protect her.

Gale Hawthorne - Liam Hemsworth - Loyal and best friend to Katniss, their fathers were both killed in the same mining accident. Gales' hunting talent is trapping and combined with Katniss' strong archery skills they work together to survive.

Haymitch Abernathy - Woody Harrelson - A "paunchy, middle aged man" is how Haymitch is described and he was the winner of the 50th Hunger Games at the age of 16. Plagued by the memories and horrors of living through the games, Haymitch's only escape is alcohol.

President Snow - Donald Sutherland - A small, thin man, with paper white hair, Snow, is the President of Panem and lives in a mansion in the City Circle of The Capitol. Ruthless and will not hesitate to kill anyone who gets in his way.

Caesar Flickerman - Stanley Tucci - Well known by all as the host of the Hunger Games. Caesar is known for his outrageous appearance and flamboyant personality. He has been hosting the games for 40 years.

Effie Trinket - Elizabeth Banks - Outgoing and perky Effie is the handler assigned to escort and advise District 12's tributes Katniss and Peeta in their preparation for the games.

Cinna - Lenny Kravitz - Stylist for Katniss, who actually requests District 12, unlike most newcomers who are assigned lesser districts when first starting out.

Portia - Latarsha Rose - Stylist for Peeta. Along with Cinna they come up with the fire themed outfits for District 12 Tributes.

Seneca Crane - Wes Bentley - Head Gamekeeper of the 74th Hunger Games, responsible for the design and control of every aspect of the competition.

Claudius Templesmith - Toby Jones - Legendary announcer in the arenas for the games. Probably most remembered for always ending his sentences with "and may the odds be ever in your favor!"
There are many other notable characters rounding out the Hunger Games movie cast of 24 Tributes faced with fighting for survival in the Hunger Games movie.
A superbly written storyline with an equally superb cast of characters, it is safe to say that the phenomenon that is The Hunger Games is here to stay.
Look for the sequel, "Catching Fire" to come out around November of 2013.
To date at least three of the movies' main actors have signed on for the full ride and we can look forward to watching their characters develop over the coming years.

Thanks for the information on Hunger Games; have read the "inside cover" on the Hunger Games but don't have a clue about the magic that has captured everyones attention. Your introdution to the characters has helped start to paint a picture for me. I am an avid reader but short of time right now. Looking forward to more articles from you!
