Channel 4 is a popular television station in The UK. They even have a streaming site available online that allows members to stream shows shortly after they've aired on television. Wouldn't it be convenient to be able to get streaming Channel 4 outside The UK? Not only could British expats traveling around the world access their favorite TV shows, but non-British interested in British culture and TV would be able to see what's going on in The UK. It's now possible.
To get Channel 4 outside The UK you need to change your IP address. Unfortunately, it's blocked if you try to access the site with a non-UK IP. Even in Europe you can't access Channel 4. You can use a VPN on your Android, iPhone, Mac, and Windows computers.
I would start by using a PPTP VPN connection. This will be available at most VPN services - I'd bet all of them. It's pretty much a standard VPN connection, and though there's not fancy encryption or other heavy duty security features like other types of VPN connections, this low profile VPN works to our advantage, giving us maximum streaming speed.
To change your IP is very easy. Sign up for a VPN service. Install the VPN software and enter your login credentials provided by the service. Go to the Channel 4 website and get the app needed for your smartphone or computer. Then you can start streaming TV.
Remember that each time you want to stream you'll have to sign into the VPN server. Even if you are already a member of channel 4's website, and have streamed in the past, each time you try to connect to the site with your non-UK IP, you'll get blocked. In fact, doing so can leave cookies on your browser that may get you blocked even when signed into the VPN server. If this happens to you, simply clear you cache and cookies, and start again.
When you stream Channel 4 outside the UK, you'll have access to all their content, because the website will think you're IN the UK. You can access American TV shows like My Name is Earl, The Simpsons, or Desperate Housewives. You can access new movies like John Carter, and old movies like Babel. You can of course get access to UK TV shows like Ugly Better and The In Betweeners.
Oh, and using a VPN service to connect to UK-Only websites will also get you access to other UK streaming sites like iPlayer. Basically, it's like having access to a small space of the UK internet, no matter where you are in the world.
