Timothy Olyphant Goes to The Wild West

Timothy Olyphant is a great actor who is well know for his tough lawman roles as Seth Bullock in HBO's Deadwood and Raylan Givens in FX's Justified. What he is perhaps less known for is his voice roles. Olyphant has lent his voice talent to video games, animated features and as narrator.

He provides the voice of Sergeant First Class Grinch in the video game Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. Grinch is the designated marksman for his team. Although little is known of his past, he speaks with a Southern accent. Olyphant says that although he doesn't usually allow his son to play violent video games, he broke down and let his son Henry have the Call of Duty. Henry now tells him how cool it is when they are fighting together. Olyphant smiles like a proud Dad when he tells the story.

Olyphant has also voiced animated characters on FX's animated series Archer as well as a Clint Eastwood type character in the animated feature film Rango. On the series Archer he plays an old friend of Archer's who has gone rogue. It seems his feelings for Archer go a little deeper than friendship. In typical Archer fashion things go violent very quickly.

Rango follows the story of a pet chameleon who falls from the family car during a trip through the desert. The chameleon meets a desert iguana, Beans, who takes him to the town of Dirt. Once there he tells the townfolk he is a tough desperado named Rango. Olyphant appears near the end of the movie as the Spirit of the West. He channels his best Clint Eastwood for the part and it turns out perfect.

Olyphant also used to join Joe Escalante every morning to do the sports report on the Indie radio station 103.1 FM. He would call in the sports report every morning regardless of where he might be at the time. Olyphant has stated that he just read the paper and reported on what he read. His reports were very entertaining. His banter with Escalante proved to much more interesting than the sports report.

Olyphant tells the story of listening to Escalante introduce the weather report, which was done by famous director David Lynch. Escalante introduced the weather report "Now here is the weather report by THE David Lynch. When it came Olyphant's turn to do the sports he asked Escalante why he wasn't introduced as THE Timothy Olyphant. The next day after doing the weather report Lynch says "Now here is the weather with Timothy Olyphant - THE Timothy Olyphant. Needless to say Olyphant was thrilled to hear Lynch call him THE Timothy Olyphant.

The latest project he has lent his voice talent to is The National Geographic Channel's The Wild West. Olyphant narrates this three part series which reveals the real outlaws of the West, the anmials who call it home. The series consists of three episodes - Gold Rush, High Noon and True Grit. Learn about the creatues who live in the Redwood Forest, the desert and the Rocky Mountains. Owls, vultures, hawks, scorpions, snakes, wolves, grizzly bears and Bronc Busting cowboys, this series has it all. It will air on The National Geographic Channel August 3, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The episodes will air back to back.
