10. Waking Life
Richard Linklater, directs a water colored story of a man who falls asleep and flys over his town, meeting many people to discuss the miracle of life. The story is completely pretentious and annoying but it's a very pretty movie that looks like it took a long time to make, it made this list, but just barley because it was boring and irritating, but I like the dream theory. Linklater's movies confuse me, because in Before Sunrise and Sunset, the characters are convincing and down to earth, and then there's Slacker, that makes no sense and was created just for the artsy quality of the crappy video camera technique.
9. Flatliners
A group of medical students vow to find out what happens when you die, so they decide to flatline. One by one they stop each other's hearts, only instead of finding heaven and hell, they find themselves in a near death experience, basically just a very rude and crude nightmare. Each one of them experiences their greatest fears and their strongest regrets. An incredible cast produces scary and real reactions to terrible things we just might be able to relate to in our own past experiences. Some times the dream is just far too real.
8. Open Your Eyes
The original Spanish film that Vanilla Sky was based on, Open Your Eyes is about a young man named Cesar who tells his psychiatrist his bizarre experiences of the last few years. Cesar found himself attracted to his best friend's lover, and before he could act, was kidnapped by his ex-girlfriend and driven off a bridge. He lives the rest of his days disfigured and in a mask, never knowing if he is awake or asleep, in a permanent state of denial.
7. A Nightmare on Elm Street
One of the most classic horror movies is also one of the most classic dream movies. To me, sleep and dreams are such a long deserved break from life and are such a safe haven, so to me, there is absolutely nothing more terrifying then actual danger in a nightmare. All of the teenagers of Springwood, Ohio are scared to death of falling asleep for fear that freddy Krueger will get his bloody revenge on them with his sharp pointy, extraordinarily long....fingers.
6. Peter Pan
Neverland is the place where kids do not grow old and live out their fantasies as a lost boy camping in the woods, eating barbecue every night and breaking every rule the adults ever had. And if you really want to, you can go there every night... in your dreams. Peter Pan comes through the window to rescue the 3 children from becoming adults and wisps them off to magical never neverland. Yet even in never neverland, Captain Hook and his pirates are all adults and are jealous of Peter Pan and his lost boys who get to live their dreams every day.
