As you'll see below, I proudly include absolutely no Roger Moore movies!
As I agree with the theory that James Bond is not an actual name of one person but a code name that is given to an agent just as the code 007 is. Why else would the title be called a "double O"??? Aren't there a 011, 012 o13? No! Just double O's. I believe it's because there are only 9 Double O agents at one time. So then, each of the actors play different agents, all under the code name, James Bond. That's why the Judy Dench M is training the new Daniel Craig James Bond, that's why they don't age and why each James Bond's personality is extremely different than the last. Connery's is smooth, whimsical and cool under pressure. Lazenby's is romantic, emotional and weaker than the rest. Moore's is dull, cocky and non confrontational. Dalton's is angry and aggressive. Brosnon's is casual, honest and prepared. Craig's is hard and bitter. It explains it all.
10. Casino Royal
Even though I don't care so much for Daniel Craig's Bond character since his personality seems sort of flat and 2 Dimensional, he makes a clean entrance into the role in the first chase scene of this movie through a construction site. The movie is based on the very first James Bond book written by Ian Flemming, by the same name and it does stay fairly faithful, being that the majority of the film takes place on the same night. I made a top 5 Bond Villains list and I should really make a top 5 worst Bond Villains list for this guy. He's weak and pathetic and the Bond Villain should always bring out the very best and worst in Bond himself. The movie though is pretty thrilling for the start of a new bond and leads us to believe that Quantum of Solace will be worth seeing....
9. Tomorrow Never Dies
Brosnon continues his job as the British spy in a movie with a very interesting villain. The media mogle, Elliot Carver tries to create a war between the Chinese and the British governments so that his news company can be the first to cover it and become the number 1 media outlet in the world. Even though Jonathan Pryce is a bit cartoony and his intentions a bit far out, Tomorrow Never dies has some unforgettable performances by Vincent Schiavelli and Ricky Jay, as well as some of the coolest action stunts of the 90s such as using a poster to glide down the side of a building and riding on a motorcycle through Bangkok.
8. Diamonds are Forever
Also including in the Top 10 Vegas movies, Diamonds are Forever is the return of Connery after Lazenby's 1 hit wonder and before the dreadful Moore bores everyone for a decade and a half. Thinking that Blofeld is dead, M sends Bond on a new mission to Las Vegas to report on some diamonds... Connery, looking much older after only 4 years of being away from his secret identity, is back to scale large casinos, drive in sand buggies, escape a burning casket and battle Blofeld for the last time on an oil ring in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
7. Goldfinger
SPOILER ALERT. Probably the most well recognized out of the Bond films, Goldfinger is about a crazy Millionaire who decides to blow up Fort Knox in an attempt to melt all the gold and drive the price of his gold up. Bond fights a battle of wits with Auric Goldfinger as he sleeps with his woman, beats him in golf and disarms his henchman with a lethal hat, Odd Job. Being the third Bond movie, it also commanded frightening numbers at the box office for the time and had lines around the block. Along with the large majority of the viewers, my favorite scene of the movie is when Bond wakes up from being hit in the head by Odd Job to discover his new lady friend lying naked on the bed, covered completely from head to foot in solid gold paint, stone cold dead. The music in this scene is terrifyingly fitting and makes it one of my favorite scenes of all time.
6. Dr. No
The first of the series is also one of the most exciting and intriguing. We are introduced to the main villain for the next 6 (not including Goldfinger) films, but only by reference from his lead henchman, Dr. No. Dr. No is one of the leaders of SPECTRE headed by the infamous, Ernst Stavro Blofeld whose power hungry ambitions are only trumped by his madness. Bond's clues takes him to the small island off of Jamaica called Crab Key. There he discovers scorpions, fire breathing dragons and a shell collector with a knife on her hip. Dr. No is a very serious, cool and collected man that deals with failure in a very deliberate way. Sean Connery breaks out onto the silver screen in this movie as James Bond and by the end of it, everyone remembers him very well.
