If you live in China you are already aware that internet censorship is prevalent and there are many websites and online series that you cannot get access to. Netflix is one of these. If you try to access Netflix in China then you will find that you are blocked from it. Indeed, access to Netflix is somewhat of an exclusive commodity and most countries cannot use their service. However, there is a way around this.

Netflix, and many other sites, use your IP address to determine your physical location. Each country is allocated specific IP addresses, and website can access this information. Because of this, trying to trick sites by saying you are in the United States does not work. A VPN is a network that makes use of high privacy measures to ensure that none of the information that the user sends is accessible to an outside source. This means that no one can determine what sites you have been visiting or what you did on them.

In terms of Netflix, VPNs have another significant advantage. They act as a bridge, standing between your computer and the website you are trying to access. When the website tries to find out what you IP address is, it reads the one that the VPN server provides it with instead. Using a VPN for Netflix in China lets you access any content you want from the American version of Netflix, and avoid internet censorship. What you do with this is up to you, but I recommend spending a lot of time watching American television and movies online.
