Writing A Film Review

I've been watching movies lately and I really like the way many screenwriters create their story. I have a couple of stories playing in my mind that I also wanted to write soon and I hope I can make them as soon as possible. I wanted to make this writing a film review then to share those things I learned.

Writing A Film Review - Dialogues

Dialogues must be created naturally and must still be based on day to day conversations. Don't let the dialogue go unnatural. My tip always is that, listen to other people talking to each other every day. Pay attention to how they deliver their message. Also, learn the common topics that people are talking about. This is because people can relate very well to the movie if they also listen to things that they also normally say and hear.

In most cases, people will talk about their experiences with their family, classmates in school, or work experiences. Meaning, they will be more concerned on talking about their personal life or other's personal life than anything else. Rarely will I hear preaching great messages while they are in the park. Rather, they just converse more on the personal level.

I like the way American movies include some personal conversations in their films. This makes people relate well. Of course I also love the Chinese proverbs in those symbolic Chinese movies and they also have their own place. I just think that very personal conversation is more useful in many situations.

Writing A Film Review - Sequence

Movies don't need to be sequenced chronologically. You can jumble the events but through the art of making proper transitions, you can still lead the audience to the flow of the story. The best example that I can give here are the films "Three Idiots" and "My Name is Khan." I'm sure you're aware of flashbacks but I mean more than that. I encourage you to watch those movies for you to understand what I mean.

Writing A Film Review - Opening and Ending

Things are so informal nowadays and you don't have to start your story with an introductory part. You also don't have to end it with a very cleaver closing. You can just start the story right away and just let the audience catch as they watch the film. There are even great movies wherein everything is in chaos at first then everything will be cleared at a certain point in the movie.

So that's all for my writing a film review. All I can is that, just be as crazy as possible in writing your screenplay. However, you must also let the audience understand and enjoy your story and not just write for the sake or your own art.
