Hulu fans everywhere are celebrating now that we know that you can watch Hulu outside of America. Ok, Hulu fans in America couldn't care less. But for Hulu fans abroad, this is cause for celebration! Now that we can watch Hulu outside America, we don't have to download crappy pirated copies of stuff, or wait for our friends to send the DVD they bought in America. Even better, we don't have to settle for dubbed versions sold in the store (wherever you are) because dubbing is always terrible. Even subtitled stuff is annoying - I wonder what Homer says in Chinese? It's probably not that funny.
What is it?
So what is it that we're using to watch Hulu outside America? Virtual Private Networks, though they sound really complicated are actually pretty easy to use and get a hold of, so Hulu lovers abroad are picking them up and recommending them to their friends.
How does it work?
With a VPN you can change your IP address. You see, when you try to access Hulu from outside America, they can see your IP address, the digital address of your computer. Check yourself out on a map sometime. They can get really close! I'm sure with some crazy government technology they count pinpoint your exact location. However, that's not necessary for Hulu to do. The just need to see that you're trying to watch Hulu outside The USA and they can block you from streaming. When you use a VPN to change your IP address, they can't see your actual IP address, they just see the "virtual" one assigned to you while you're signed into the VPN server.
How do I use one?
All you have to do is right click the icon on your laptop/desktop and choose a location, or find the vpn/settings location on your mobile device. It's that easy. There's no coding or technical knowledge necessary.
What's PPTP, L2TP, SSL, and OpenVPN?
These are VPN protocols. They're designed differently for different purposes. When all is said and done, if you don't want to get into the details - mobile devices should use PPTP and other devices should use the same, or OpenVPN which are the same thing. Basically, PPTP VPN is the standard VPN for Hulu. Don't worry about the others, trust me, it's not that important.
How much is this going to cost?
You can get a cheap one for a few dollars a month, and at most you'll spend 20. It just depends on your taste and what your require in a service. If you're looking to watch Hulu outside America, you need to find a service with servers in America. That is the only requirement. You'll have a hard time trying to find a service WITHOUT servers in America, so it shouldn't be tough. You could actually be started in about fifteen minutes from now, including paying, downloading, setting up, and signing in.
