Tips for Making A Local Move In Lompoc

Born out of a temperance colony in the 1800’s, Lompoc has blossomed into one of Santa Barbara County’s more desirable locales. The city boasts ample shopping, fine dining, and entertainment, along with being in fairly close proximity to the Pacific Ocean and a few hours’ drive from the excitement of Los Angeles. Although it’s an alluring area, making a local move in Lompoc can turn out to be a tricky affair. Moving is difficult as it is, but when you add in the fact that there is a large population in the city, along with a shortage of truly great moving companies, it’s a recipe for trouble. There is hope though, as there are some little things that you can do which will simplify the moving process. This article will outline some of those things, so that your next local move in Lompoc is an effortless and enjoyable experience.

The Tips for Making a Local Move in Lompoc

• The first tip for making a local move in Lompoc is to pack your boxes properly. To properly pack a box, you must meticulously fill all of the space between the items stored within, so that the boxed items cannot shift during the transition. Start by layering packing paper on the bottom of the box, load your heavy items in first and lighter items second, and then fill all of the space between the items with packing paper. Once you’ve filled the space, the items should be tightly packed into the box. Give the box a gentle shake to test the tightness of your pack job, if the items don’t shift, then you’re good to go. If they shift, you’ll need to add more packing materials in between the items. Then, add another layer of packing paper onto the top of the items, and seal the box shut.

• The second tip for your local move is to plan the move for the summer months, when Lompoc sees the most favorable weather. From May until September, and sometimes dragging into October, the area sees less than an inch of rain per month, and virtually zero rain during the months of June, July, and August. This is the ideal time to move, as the weather will save you money by not slowing the move down. Conversely, the area sees between three and four inches of rain a month during the winter and spring months, and that can significantly slow down a move. In some cases, our lives don’t allow us to plan our move for the most ideal times, and in those instances it’s just best to go with the flow and try to coordinate it as effectively as possible to avoid inclement weather.

• The third tip for local moves in Lompoc is to donate any gently used household goods that you no longer want or need, or have a garage sale. By donating the items to a local church or charitable organization, such as the Goodwill off of N H Street, they can be utilized by those who are less fortunate. If you have a garage sale, then you can make a little money off of the items, which could potentially go towards a tip for the movers. Also, if you have kids, a garage sale is a great way to incorporate them into the moving process, and to teach them about hard work, while potentially providing them with a little bit of money.

These three tips should help make your next local move a little bit easier. You should always partner with a top-notch Lompoc moving company, but do your research before choosing a mover. If you need help finding a mover in your area, or confirming whether a company is reputable or not, consult with the California Public Utilities Commission, which regulates the local moving industry. They can tell you which companies are licensed, insured, and in good standing with the local community.
