This article provides a review of the Mackie HR824 Mk2 Studio Reference Monitors.
The Mackie Hr824 Mk2 is the affordable alternative to the Mackie HR monitor. So, if you want something that is really good but can't afford to buy the best, these are the second best which are not far behind.
The MR mark 2 powered studio monitors, the latest in the studio monitor selection by Mackie.
As the name implies, Mackie took their best selling MR studio monitors and made them even better. They have updated the look, upgraded the transducers and re-voiced them to make them sonically untouchable in their class.
The new transducer now features a new composite woofer in each one with an inverted dust cap. The tweeters are neodymium magnet driven soft dome tweeters which are both significant upgrades on all the units to the previous generation.
Mackie chose to keep the old MR amplifier. The reason they opted to do this is because they continue to out power everything in the price range. As they got new transducers, they had to re-voice the amplifier in order for it to be matched to the new component so they went through the voicing process that really does make the Mackie HR 824 Mk2 not only sonically superior to their predecessors but also more superior to the other monitors in the market of the same price range.
Further contributing to both the sound and the look is the new baffle. Each baffle features a Mackie running man power indicator and a shiny new bling ring. There is also the new tooled waveguide into the molded baffle which also serves to assist in the three dimensional sense of imaging and depth which comes out of these monitors.
The rear panel features the same amplifier controls of the previous generation which is volume control and high frequency -2 to +2 positions as well as a low frequency +2 to +4. And there is all of the inputs that you need as well including RCA, XLR and 1/4 inch balanced TRS jack.
There is still a rear port on this model as the cabinet design itself has not changed from the previous generation as there is no need - if it aint broke......
Mostly the same cabinet design is due to cosmetics but also because of the significant driver upgrade, there was no need to re-design the whole speaker.
The Mackie HR824 Mk2 Studio Reference Monitors sound absolutely fantastic and, for a monitor of this quality, the price is very reasonable.
