As the days go by I realize more and more how you can't stop the hands of time. Seems like yesterday I was watching American Bandstand and listening to all the new up and coming stars of the music world, and all thanks to Dick Clark. When opening my news account this afternoon, I was looking at an article titled "Dick Clark is Gone." The first thing I thought to myself was, where did he go? Then I realized I was reading a tribute, the man had died.
Am I that old?
I had to ask myself if I really was this old? Dick Clark dead at 82? Wow, I guess I am. Seems like just yesterday I was watching him ring in the New Year, but yesterdays add up, and we have a habit of losing track of them. I guess I lost track of a few, but news like this makes one step back and think about how many yesterdays a person has wasted. I have to say I wasted more than my share, but I am going to get the most out of what is left.
His accomplishments.
Dick Clark productions made Mr. Clark one of the richest and most successful celebrities in Hollywood. His company has churned out over 30 series, 250 specials, and more than 200 movies. He has been awarded Emmys, Grammys, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall OF Fame, and he has his own star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. He made American Bandstand a household name, and a thumbs up or thumbs down could make or break an entertainers career. Not bad for someone who started in the business by working in the mail room.
What about his new Years Eve Specials?
Mr. Clark's " Dick Clark's New Years Rocken Eve" became a tradition every year. He hosted the show for 3 decades till in 2004 he had a stroke and had to step back and work on relearning how to walk and talk, but he did return and continue the tradition of entertainers, and the legendary countdown to midnight.
What Now?
I salute Mr. Clark for changing the face of Rock and Roll, and for all his contributions to the entertainment business. Everything he touched seemed to turn to gold, and he will be forever in the hearts of many. To me, he will always be Americas Oldest teenager. His signature sign off will be heard no more, and today, it is my turn to salute the man and all of his contributions to an industry I love. Thank you Dick, and rest peacefully.

Woke up to this news this morning. He's certainly been a part of a lot of people's lives and you know, I can't remember ever hearing a bad thing about the man. That in itself is quite an accomplishment for any celebrity today.
I didn't know Dick Clark had passed away till I read your article just now, Shawn. How sad. This is a sobering reality that time is marching on for all of us.
Man I had the same reaction as you, where's he gone to? It is these very deaths that make me realize that time waits for no one. I like you have watched him on the Tely and sometimes shows that are a few years old before the advent of satellite TV in our country. The time draws nearer for all of these iconic celebrities to move on, my concern are there others as boundary breaking following on?
Interesting Shawn. I too feel the years slipping away when we hear of deaths such as this one. Somehow it seems that these iconic people will be around forever. I find it interesting when a famous person dies and the impact it has on so many who never 'personally' knew them. It can be a timely reminder to us all that, although not famous, we can have long reaching effects on others.
I do remember him well...Didn't realize his death until now...thanks
