If you are a studio sound engineer, you not only need to trust your ears but also that your reference monitors are providing an accurate sound image as well. If they don't, then you do not know if your mixes will sound good in other listening environments. A good pair of monitors is probably the most important aspect of the audio chain.
There is a company that has great pedigree, being one of the most trusted names in professional audio, as they have taken their expert professional studio knowledge and applied it to home or project studio monitoring. The name is KRK, and the monitors are the Rokit RP8 G2. The KRK RP monitors are even more accurate than the first generation KRK's and still within most budgets and still user friendly.
As they are designed for the home or project studio, they are very easy to set up and are active speakers so no need to find an external matching amplifier either. Driver efficiency is ensured by the internal amplifier which provides clear headroom and they have easy to understand volume and high frequency controls on the back of them so you can adjust them for taking into consideration any listening environment and project.
You do not have to be worried that the two controls on the back aren't enough to make any listening environment neutral as they have some other design implementations that also help if your room is not optimised acoustically or you do not have the room for optimum monitor positioning. For instance, The speakers have front firing ports which combat boundary coupling as happens when a speaker is placed too close to a wall and the cabinets themselves are designed with round corners which combat the diffraction associated with box shaped speakers and tend to muddy the sound. These two design features make the sound more accurate. The sound is improved further by way of the re-voiced tweeter which gives a more neutral sound and the design of the tweeter cuts down on phase problems and diffusion in the upper frequencies. These design features result in the KRK Rokit RP8 G2 monitors giving a clear image.
The KRK Rokit RP8G2 are used by sound engineers and home studio owners throughout the world and can even be used for high end gaming applications due to the low frequency rumble you can get by adjusting the frequency and volume controls at the back. They can also be implemented in 5.1 surround systems with the addition of a sub woofer thus making these monitors an excellent choice.
