So your looking to make rap beats and get them out there for all to see? sounds complicated. Not at all really, these days it's a lot easier than you may think. This article will point out a few tips and things you need to know to get started.
Rap music is generally known to have come from the basis of hip hop and hip hop music has been around for just over two decades. In my opinion hip hop music is no where near as hard to record as 'rock' or 'folk' music - this is because there is only two things to think about in a hip hop song, the beat & the vocals. You can make rap beats easily because of this factor.
Don't think of the beat and vocals just being two separate tracks - the beat can be several ( or more tracks ) combined and so to can the vocals. Vocals are vocals so we'll leave them for the time being, after all you want to make rap beats right? The rap beat is generally made up of drum loop of sorts for starters. This drum loop is usually created by a sampler or a MIDI drum section system ( both can comprise of full drum loops ). Following this would always be the baseline - personally I always use a MIDI system to create the baseline, it allows you to have very little knowledge of music and to basically cut and paste your baseline into whatever you need.
Some sort of orchestra sounds are usually used on hip hop or rap tunes. This can range from samples of classic orchestral pop songs to using samples from a MIDI controller. Again I like to use the more modern MIDI based synthesizers ( or controllers/ keyboards ). In some cases even the cheaper supermarket keyboards have decent sounding orchestra samples and are fine to use as long as they have MIDI connectors.
Whilst I am a fan of more analog based music as well as more modern means I would not recommend using analog means to record rap beats. Analog tends to add a lot of natural device noise to recordings whereas digital means and methods are a lot cleaner ( you want a nice clean sound in hip hop music ). The ability to make rap beats is great fun and can lead to a lasting profession if you take your time over it and record naturally. Good luck.
