OK, I have accepted that my first son, keep in mind I have two and they were both raised completely around Classic Rock and Country, followed me into the music business with his own twist of thrash metal. He went to Vegas and became somewhat successful doing the WARPED tours. Now my second son is also following me in the business as a Hip Hop artist, so he asks me a while back to help him in making Hip Hop contacts online.
Benefits of Twitter and other social networks.
Lucky for him I had just been checking out my Twitter account and had figured out how it all works. I found him a bunch of rappers who tweet a lot and away he went.
Then I opened my G+ account, remembering that they have circles you can join and one I had seen awhile back was filled with rappers.I got him going on these two networks and he has not looked back.
He now regularly talks to his idols and runs ideas by them, and he has built a very successful social network around his website.
Importance of Social Networks
In today's world social networks are so essential to get the word out without all the expense of a major add campaign. You get immediate results the second you post something and the power of having a following is huge.
Several major artists have launched CD's sold exclusively on the web, and you can bet Social Networks had a big part in their success. The rock band Journey replaced Steve Perry, one of my all time favorite Classic Rock singers by the way, right up there with Lou Gram, with a guy they saw on You Tube. Now that's powerful.
My first son, Dr. Noise, has launched a weekly show on the web and has used You Tube to build a huge following of his videos.
Are people really paying attention?
You bet they are! I am a member of a local chat board with about six regular posters. Funny, most of the posters do not live anywhere around here, but they have ties to my area. The board does have several hundred members, and many of the read the posts every day. While I may be thinking only six others are reading my posts, looking at the page views I see numbers in the hundreds. People are everywhere, and there are so many different ways to build up a social network.
So, son number two is off and running, and my peaceful studio at home which not too long ago screamed of Thrash Medal, now resounds with that foot tapping Hip Hop Beat.
