Mobile Wedding DJ - The 4 Things You Should Know

If you are looking for a mobile wedding DJ what sort of things should you be looking for?

In this article are going to discuss four important things that you will need to consider when looking a DJ for your wedding. You will be surprised to find that pricing is not the major factor in a sensible consideration of a DJ.

Of course it's natural to think about price … you might have heard “you pay for what you get” well it's true. Trying to get things "cheap" might pay off in other areas of life and possibly even your wedding, but not when it comes to a DJ. (Is "cheap" really the words to define your special day?) You want everything to be perfect on your special day.

Equipment Quality

You might feel proud that you have saved some cash by finding a cheaper mobile wedding DJ. Wondering how the others can dare to charge a couple hundred more, until the special day. You hear all the songs that are special to you sound absolutely terrible through speakers that sound thin and cheap. Now you can see where that extra couple of hundred dollars would have save your night.

DJ Reputation

Do some background research on the DJ. Are others talking about them? If so, what are they saying? Ask around various people in the wedding industry, if the DJ company is reputable, someone will have heard of them and be able to vouch for them.

Professionalism

You will get the feel if you are dealing with a professional company or not. A professional DJ is just that. They make being a DJ their primary source of income. If you are dealing with a company that can't take calls or won't return calls in normal business hours, this is a good sign they may be "moonlighting" as a DJ to earn some extra cash. Not that there is anything specifically wrong with that, but wouldn't you prefer to know you are dealing with a dedicated DJ that makes this their entire career? The problem with a DJ doing this business as "sideline" is they can't truly give their full attention to all the preparations to be made prior to the big day, not to mention they might feel unenthusiastic and "burnt out" after a full week working elsewhere.

Licensing & Insurance

Did you know (in Australia at least) a DJ is required to be licensed with the appropriate governing body? Most people (including many DJs) are unaware of this. They are also required to have $20 million public liability insurance. By not having these licenses and insurance, they might be able to keep their overheads (and therefore costs) down, but at what cost?

If something happens and someone is hurt, or your DJ is investigated and found to be unlicensed, all his employers (that would be you) are also caught in the legal mess. Why did you hire a mobile wedding DJ without checking for licenses? Would you knowingly hire someone to build and extension on your house without checking they are licensed?

We hope you have found this information helpful.
